Hello all,

Heading to the area around Stansted Airport stalking this spring to help a friend with deer numbers but don't know what species to expect?
Looks like only Fallow and Muntjac but looking for local knowledge that might suggest otherwise?

Thanks.

Hi mate, I live in Stansted and have only ever seen Fallow and Muntjac! Plenty of fallow about in particular. Let me know if you need another hand.

Have you asked your friend what deer are on his ground, I'd have thought that would give you the best answer ?

Sorry should have said it's all new to him as well and were trying to get as much info about the surrounding area as we can 👍

Fallow and Muntjac also a few Roe, the answer will be what is safe to shoot and in season.
keep us posted. :tiphat:

No where near, cwd seem to stop at Ipswich
As I posted elsewhere, when I was living at Wyton, it was predominately roe although some reds were seen near the A1/A14 intersection at Brampton Hut. I've been away for 15 years now and the farm I shot at St Ives is now overrun with CWD! Sadly, I'm back in Bristol now and have only ever taken 2 CWD from the Woburn area.

No great loss 2 is enough!

Personally I think they are the worst eating of the lot very closely followed by red!

I don’t bother I get the lady stalkers to get on with it!

There was a CWD shot also a red close to that area of STD but the op will just find fallow/mj

I've just done some stalking about 5 miles from Stansted. On my weeks holiday I did three outings with the gun and daily dog/observation walks on the same area.
Mainly resident fallow - lots of them. Muntjacs in abundance. Some, but few, roes and not shot on the farm I was on.
Lovely area and good luck.

I was taught to stalk around Stansted. Fallow and Muntjac only. There were always a few Roe, but nobody shot them. Red are not far away, but never seemed to move that far.
The gamekeeper on the estate I went to always kept an eye out for anything new; he swore blind he saw a red squirrel there once. Lord knows where that came from.
