Whats in your stalking kit?

So i'm fairly new to this and slowly collecting gear I need but just wondering what essential things people are bringing to a stalk.

Rifle, scope, thermal, shooting sticks, binos, range finder, knife and of course...a man bag to carry the other assorted crap in :)

Keep it to the absolute minimum you can especially if you are doing a lot of walking 👍

Depends on where and what stalking I am doing. Locally here in Hampshire woodland stalking I have a basic gralloch kit with unzipper, wipes, extra ammo, disp gloves, S hooks etc. Head torch added for evenings. For open hill, then a vorn pack with more gear inc first aid etc

rifle(including bolt!) , ammo , binos and knife basic

plus -drag rope and food for a day on the hill

Good one for a sticky post…

Everyone has their own opinion / tolerance for “essential” vs. “Makes life easier” (discuss…!) A few considerations that may effect your choices:

Ground: ease of access to area, open vs tight woodland and the walking distances involved. Less inclined to worry about carrying “nice to haves” on an easily accessible short estate walk vs. a long hill walk or a fight through bramble/woodland.

Species: you can get away with pulling a Roe/MJ deer way further/easier than a red stag…

Vehicle access: can leave most of your bulkier stuff in the wagon if you can get it reasonably close by. May need to carry more if not.

In any case, other than rifle/ammo/scope… binos, length of rope, solid fixed blade sharp knife (nearly any will do… classic area to “waste/invest” money as you wish).

And a small first aid kit (knife injuries/slash on wire etc easy done and can go bad quick). Personal opinion, I’d rather have and never need a CAT tourniquet, Israeli bandage +plasters (think stopping bleeding).

There are numerous threads on similar subjects in the search e.g. Basic stalking kit

Minimum: rifle, thermal, bailer twine for dragging, knife, biscuits, phone

Usually: LRF binos, ice fishing drags for cleaner extraction, mil surplus poncho, gralloch pack x2 - nitrile gloves, bio wipes, couple of wee cable ties for **** up recovery, first aid kit mainly for cuts

Sometimes: portable seat with anti sinking base for random ambushes, paracord and climbing pulley when I know extraction is going to be a bugger

I am not a fan of a pack but as you can see I will accept a light pack in return for an easy drag over hard ground.

It all depends on the stalking you do. We all call it stalking but in reality our experiences and challenges will vary hugely

Just as important is how/where you will transport/store what you shoot, with MJ all year around also Roe Buck season is in the warmer months you will struggle to keep one from turning in the summer heat overnight!
Most of my kit is in the truck with just the basic- rifle/rounds sticks knife drag cord. Your land will dictate what type of kit as over time you will learn the distances as every piece has features to make note of if you are that way inclined.
