Wanted: Air rifle

Just been asked to clear some rats of a foxing permission I have so I'm looking to see what is about for the job.

Ideally PCP, not worried about calibre, or included scope etc.. I also have a .22 fac slot also. Not looking at spending a lot at all, just will probably be used this job, then moved on again.

Sussex area to keep cost down too.
I've done well using a break barrel HW95 in .177, with open sights. That'll be highly effective. Though you can get a lot of good condition springers for under £100. Failing that, use .22 shotshells, or CB caps out of a .22lr.

I would suggest a 9mm Webley & Scott bolt action "Garden Gun" but you likely upset some people at Marford Mill. So my advice is whatever you do get make sure that it has adequate power by...if a shop...asking for it to be put over a chronograph. An old but worn out BSA, nice as it might be, if all it can manage power at around 8ft/lbs isn't really going to do much at distance.

OP. Said he had bought a break barrel

Hopefully he updates what he bought snd how hes getting on?

I do love an air rifle

Same here. Nice to get back to basics. I look at an air rifle with open sights up to at least 25 yards , in good light, as more than adequate. Shooting in gloomy conditions iri and around buildings, as no problem ; turn lights on or use a torch 👌😁.

If you can get a bead on 40 yards plus rats your doing well your doing well . They are rarely still for long ! The head and lung shots are small
I've brought a springer, zeroed at 15 yards which I set out at the permission in front of where they come out from! Best I'm getting with all the pellets I tried is within 10p coin. I'm use to rifle shooting and loading my own, and can hit 10p groups at 100 yards 🤦 going back to air rifles definitely make you remember the principles of hold over/under 🤷 quite nice actually to go back to basics

Absolutely.
I myself have been heavily into long range shooting, which has given me great knowledge, and the equipment to match, but going back to basics, you don't need big scopes, or any scope necessarily at air rifle ranges in reasonable light. I often use my De Lisle carbine, HK300 or one of my 22lr's with ooen sights.
I never use a bipod, hate large scopes, even at distance, and most of my scopes are fixed power.
There's something about an iron sighted air rifle, or one with a small low powered scope, a tin of pellets, and sussing out your MPBR zero and constantly practicing. No filing air canisters......
*** Iron sights increase your your MPBR, as many will be aware, due to being so low to the bore.
Now, .177 or .22......?😂

Exactly! It's definitely been something long lost !

Haha I went with .22 as it was available but I think I'd of liked a .177, but it'll do the job!
