First Light App V2 - Now with Cull Diary, Deer School and Hourly Weather

Thank you, Sir.

You are absolutely right about the barrier to entry; I believe I was rejected or ghosted on at least 20 guided outing requests before making any headway.

I have to give a special shoutout to Ian Farrington here. He took me out on my first stalk and has continually guided me both on and off the field ever since. My stalking journey truly wouldn’t have started without him.

On the culinary side, I've found that Fallow Biryani and Roe doe Kadhai are excellent ways to enjoy the harvest.

It’s shocking that you got ghosted by so many guides it never even crossed myself or Andy’s mind when you came on a sim day with us all those years ago. I can only apologise for all the narrow minded k*ob heads.

That really is very good!

What a about an option to record unsuccessful stalks?

Landowners like to know how often people are out as well as cull numbers.

I tip my hat for that, some real quality work has gone in to it. Genuinely 10/10.

One thing - is there any way to make v2 an app? As in a downloaded app? I find apps easier than web links that I tend to loose 😂

I dare say with the next two years or so, thousands will be using it.

Thanks for the kind words.

You can add it as an app on your mobile home screen directly from the webpage. It doesn’t require App Store or Google Play and acts exactly like an app.

I am attaching the instructions and I have updated the app to include an install button so its easier to find.

Thanks, Jason! 99% of the people I’ve met in the deer management community have been fantastic. You and Andy have been great friends and a huge help with my DSC-1, and I’ve already signed up for Andy’s new venture!

I see! that at least gives me a little more idea of where and when It ends I figured it had too do with some sort of season date but since I shoot almost entirely roe It wasn't quite clicking 👍

I can understand that but same time I really dont think there's any concern in being generalized Its by far the best website on the market now for pretty much everything, from the cull records, too actively time, legal hours, map (actually shows the forest names I couldn't find!) and various tidbits of information nothing comes close, I personally wouldn't use anything else this effectively too me Is the UK/EUR equivalent of OnX in NA something I've been wanting for a while.

I couldn't see the ability for a user too add more species himself being a terrible idea, It will be a niche used feature I admit but It would be nice for that extra added customization.
Otherwise I can see people just utilising a deer species tag they dont have (e.g CWD) and putting all there entries under a deer species that isn't prevalent.

Just curious what site Is the GPS using for imaging? I've been using google maps but It has some cloud cover in my most recent stalking area, this website does not.
Hi Sol, that is a valid point. I will do a bit of brainstorming and see what will be the best way for additional species.

For maps, I am using multiple APIs that also include a layer from Ordinance Survey maps, hence the reason you are able to see forest names. The satellite imagery is commercial grade too.

Update: Version 2.1 now published

Based on Tom’s feedback above, I have now added the functionality to add blank outings.

The entry can be added through the same New Entry button, however, once you click the blank button you do not have to enter specie details etc. you are still able to record the ground/location and any notes if you wish to.

The stats section now record the total number of outings and also shows if any of those outings were blank days.

Version 2.1 also includes the search functionality in the field guide section.

Top marks all round though 👌

Heck
You don’t hang around V2.1 !
I can just imagine how much BDS or BASC would get fleeced for by a commercial developer trying to get something like this out.
Probably just goes to prove the point that committees are most effective when they have odd numbers less than three.

Totally agree, I do not have to wait for design and funding approvals.

Also, the AI coding systems have proven very helpful for developers.

The future of coding is AI and here.
God I remember the frustration with **** taking developers in one of my previous lives.

Mate, this is absolutely brilliant. Exactly the right information you need when you are out. No BS, complicated menus etc.
Please keep up the good work. I really hope you get a good sponsor, well deserved.

I think it was Churchill who said "The best committee has three members, two of them dead"

David.

This is great, only found this app this evening

Would it be possible to add the Open Seasons for Northern Ireland and other relevant information for Northern Ireland to the next update?
