Always needed especially after you have spent a whole day out on the hill or in the woods, in cold wet sleety conditions and seen absolutely nothing.

You have unloaded the rifle completely given up and get back to the car to find lots of deer hoof prints all around the car. Almost as if they have been having a party at your expense. Then the large stag saunters by just after you have got out of your wet kit rifle is the boot etc.

I should say that at some point I've forgotten every item in the picture and only when it was the ammo or the bolt did it really matter.

I know what you mean. You realise you've left forgotten something essential... but the rifle will still shoot, so you press on, sans binos, or whatever. Without the essential thing, you improvise, adjust your tactics, and end up having an unexpectedly good time.

For Roe, lowland stalking, I think it’s a good guide if everything can fit in your pockets.

Apart from binos, thermal, rifle and some rounds which are basically all I carry. I have a truck load (or car boot with truck being poorly) of other stuff which is usually useful for a morning in the wood or on the hill. Id say bog roll being the most important.

I forgot my bolt once, to this day unless i am travelling long distances with my rifle and unless its being cleaned the bolt NEVER leaves the action!

Why are people tying the rectum with ‘stuff’?

It’s easily knotted to itself?

Why do you need to tie it at all? - just take the whole lot out ‘hoop to snoot’

Never understood why people remove the bolt , I never have and consequently have never dropped that bollock.

yep learned that lesson putting the .270 bolt in the bag instead of the 7mm 1 hour 15 later .... went for a walk round fallow everywhere too

Completely forgot my kit a couple of weeks ago, thankfully had a spare knife. It felt quite liberating! And I got a little buck.

Depends on the kind of stalking you are doing! A day on the hill involves a lot more kit.

In general for woodland/lowland stalk, rifle, binos (Habroks-also spare batteries), knife, sticks, drag rope, head torch (if going for evening stalk). In the car is first aid kit, saw, larder knife, sled/carcass tray, wipes/water. Can’t think of much else.

Everyone seems to have a lot of faith they will make it back to the vehicle for first aid.

I always have a kit in the car as standard

But if I think I need out out with me , then I take it out with me and would not leave it in the car

Hipflask, cigarettes, lighter and matches, chewing tobacco, thermos of coffee, jerky, sweeties, bacon bap, couple dirty mags.

Roll of dog poo bags.

Very small, handy for liver heart, kidney's for the dogs (out the father in law) and for any rubbish - gloves wipes blue roll etc
