DSC2

Waiting for internal assessor verifiers to contact you is like asking how long a chocolate fireguard will last, some are in their dotage, some can be ill, some can be curmudgeons, some can be not arsed …… & the odd few can be really into it and respond.
It was about 2 months before I heard back from them, although they did apologise for the delay.

I had an absolute hard arse …. But did he know his sh*t!, I made the cut after 7 cull stalks & two completed portfolo’s

Grateful thanks to a certain John Archer for his description of my drop jaw demo.👍

Leec6.5 has a valid point that Red are very different to Muntjac. Perhaps L2 should include a range of species as the larger herding deer are a different challenge to our smaller deer.

However that would result in even fewer L2 candidates.

Quite, the logistics are miles apart, I took the edge off a very good sharp knife on a big Red as the fur/mane was full of grit it killed 2 knives by the time I had it off. The head weighed far more than any whole muntjac.

At least somebody agrees with me!

Red Deer or not fun and games, I will assure you, I’ve said it before they are a pain in the arse when they’re alive and they’re an even bigger pain in the arse when they’re dead!

And unless you’ve got experience in dealing with those size animals, you’re gonna learn the hard way that’s for sure!

Hasn't Peter Jones already done that?

Yes - £750 registration plus the costs of stalking 10 deer over the 2 units (Invasive and Non-Invasive).

And yet people here were complaining that DSC2 is a “cash cow”!

If it is, I can’t understand where all that supposed cash is going, as the registration is £175 or £180, depending on who you register with, and then you can do the rest for free if it’s your own ground and you find a willing AW.

PDS 2 costs between £125-140 for registration and theory module. 2x stalks paid or unpaid after that depending on your situation.

Is this the advanced deer management course you are referring to?

To be fair I think this is the best way to learn. As I mentioned my view is that DSC2 is merely "confirmation" that you know what you are doing and what you are doing is up to a "decent" standard. Its time in the field and behind the rifle that teaches you the key skills ...and you are always learning.

If Im honest I prefer to gralloch fallow then roe as the bigger deer are easier (I have a tow bar winch set up) but extraction wise fallow are bad enough so fair play for those who deal with reds. You can understand why I wont be dragging big reds around as I am built for speed :) 👍

I had a towbar winch set up once, I bent it on a very substantial red hind, never used it again chuck it on the scrap heap waste the time and money unless you’ve got a proper one and I mean proper!
