Police request to remove a photo from facebook for renewal

Yeah. but what I do is for the bait company, i’m also very good friends with the owners of the company, so I get a very good deal in return so it swings roundabouts for that.

Also, what I do, do is very minimal

I did think about starting a Deer stalking channel, I was gonna call it proper stalking, a non-establishment,no bull 💩guide to deer management but then I had a better idea and went fishing. That’s how much deer stalking interests me these days
He was talking about The SD, not your YouTube channel…..

Has anyone experienced this before?

Had a phone call today to let me know that my FAC/ SGC renewal has just been processed and renewed, all good. It was then mentioned that I have a photo uploaded to my facebook page in 2016 of me holding a shotgun. I was told 'we don't like people putting up pictures that might advertise that they are licence holders', and could I please have a look and take it down?

The only picture I can find from 2016, doesn't show my face, and is a photo (from behind) of me shooting at clay on the 'have-a-go' clay line at the Game Fair. Hardly advertising that I either do or don't own guns, its a public event that many people who don't own guns go to and have a go shooting at. Although I accept that the general public probably won't recognise that.

This wasn't mentioned at my last renewal in 2021 so seems a bit odd to bring it up now.
I have plenty of other shooting related photos up on my page of me at clay grounds etc... they have not been brought up.

I did point out that shooting is a legal hobby and my FB is locked down tight due to the nature of my work, so only people who know me can find me. I'm not publicly 'findable'.

I was told that viewpoint is understandable, but they'd still rather I remove the photo.

I don't really care either way, I'll probably do it just to avoid an argument, got plenty of other things to spend my emotional energy on right now!

Is it not really a big deal, or is this the thin end of the wedge of over reach and control?

Anyone else had similar?

Jim

I'm in the same area as you and was similarly asked to remove a photograph of a sub-12 air rifle from my Instagram page for the exact same reason as you were given.

I was pretty surprised and did question it but ultimately chose to remove the photo so as not to argue over something that really doesn't affect me in any way but could cause future problems I could do without.

I do wonder how anyone in our area would fare with a YouTube channel!

My intention with this comment is not to argue with you or criticise. If I’m honest, I would do exactly as you did and remove the photograph but we shouldn’t accept that it ‘doesn’t really affect’ us. It really does affect us when we accept that sort of demand so that we can keep shooting. Next time, they’ll be trying to charge you £1000 for renewal because they have to do the deep dive investigation into your social media. After that they’ll be looking for thought crimes.

I’ve never had one of these stupid requests yet but when I do, I hope I question it. Hopefully it’ll align with a time when I’m sick of shooting anyway and I can blame them for me giving up.

It would be interesting to learn the number of firearms thefts from legitimate ‘higher profile’ FAC holders where the weapon/s are proven to go on to be used in a crime, which might be the matter they are ‘aiming’ 🤔😆 to er, reduce.
If you look at ‘firearm’ crime statistics then 50% of them are BB/air guns. Of the rest 80% are handguns, a few are shotguns and the last time I looked only 1 was a rifle and it wasn’t fired.

If they really gave a stuff about firearms crime they would stop harassing us and go after the criminals

makes me smile when they show all the " firearms " handed in / siezed , all airguns knives and the odd crossbow :-|

if you profile is locked down how did the police gain access?
It's not as simple as that. He might be locked down, but there are some permissions (such as allowing a 'friend' to tag your name in a shared image) which means it can escape your private settings

And on top of the heap of kitchen knives, dangerous weapons is always a replica pistol and a cheap eBay Samurai sword.
But it must reassure the hand-wringing Lefties that some great good has been achieved. I wonder if they all give themselves a pat on the back.

Do you have a link to the stats please, I always like to include stuff like this when I write to my MP, thanks

Perhaps a polite and subtle way of letting you know "we are watching"?

Orwellian it may be but you'd need to be seriously naive to imagine the Home Office and Police Authorities aren't monitoring all forms of social media and no doubt with the assistance of AI.

Indeed, going through the HAD process shortly with the local police and been warned to not have anything anti islamic on my social media. There isn't but!
