Ultrasoninc Cleaning

deer man Didnt you know I had a 19" 270 with a 7 x 50 Swaro?

Total convert to ultra sonic dont clean mods in it but do clean trigger groups bolts etc

can i query summit here?

Q)if the citric acid is turning the surface pink and doing something to the brass why are people still using it?
or
A)....is it a very gradual process??
cant see you wanting to fork out for lapau brass then knackering it?

Q) is there not a chance of weakening the brass at all??
A)???

up till now i use water with bit of dishes soap and or vinegar...sometimes even used a cheap brand of coca cola as its acidic and has the co2 fizzing action also and that works followed by a really good rinse

im not too worried how shiny the outside walls etc are but more interested in how clean the inside and primer pocket are
i have been looking to see if there was anything else as a medium i could use that will give better results without any "damage"

Hiya All

There is a comprehensive thread over on the Cast Boolits site about ultrasonic cleaning additives, in particular the benefits/advantages of using a Citric Acid mix. This includes opinions from Chemists etc.

Long read but worth it for the experience based opinions.

Over to you......

Have a look at this one.

I have just got it after a reply from Muir who ,I gather, stands his brass vertically and uses Sea Clean2 He infers he gets several hundred cases in per batch. Digitally times and also can be bought badged under a popular shooting accessory name (at a significant markup of course!)

Ultra 8020 Ultrasonic Cleaner : Ultrasonic Cleaners : Maplin Electronics

Its on offer just now and has a 1.5L tank.

You got that one Colin? How many rounds does it hold?

Just doing all my brass at the moment as it chucking it down. Using citric acid as advised by Mr Lewis and they are coming up gleaming. I'm fitting 20 308/243 at a time only because they lay flat on the bottom of the cleaner, but have placed up to 30 before when using soap, vinegar mix. These are coming up so clean, I'm redoing the one's I done in vinegar again.

No, laying them down, just put 30 in and they still come out sparkling. Little bit of soot left around the neck just wipes off before placing in the oven. Let me know if you want to try it out, got loads of citric acid.

I wont- will be leaving you a tub in the usual place next time i'm up. Looking like next Thur as my trainee is climbing the wall trying to get out! Deer man, are you about then for an afternoon stalk?
