Used disinfectant once and it killed a springer , i asked the vet about it he told me the dog was licking his paws etc the disinfectant got into his gut and killed the bacteria which killed the dog he was 11 months the kennels were washed everyday and disinfected once a week .
Since then I've neve used disinfectant and never will the only thing required is water .
The disinfectant by the way was jeyes

Strong caustic soda mix every few weeks.
I have seen dogs made very sick with phenol based disinfectants. I have seen a number of dogs with skin irritation from these products. I would not recommend their use. If you insist then clean the kennel, disinfect, allow contact time and then rinse thoroughly.
Something like Trigene, Safe4 or Virkon would be my suggestions. At the recommended dilution they are more effective and very safe for the dogs. If you want cheap bleach will disinfect a spotlessly clean surface.

Lost a bulldog years ago with a similar tale WS tore the family apart havn`t used it since and warn as many people as possible.

Jeyes can kill.Virkon S/Bio vx does not,it's used for cleaning water lines in livestock sheds,can even let the animals drink it,does no harm but is a powerful disenfectant.I still allow time for it to work(as said before,contact time)

Thats the key! I've picked up one turd in the last month! I never use any disinfectant, just hose and scrub with a brush once a month or so.

I'm lucky Shabz,can drop things and be with/walk dogs whenever I want.Makes a big difference if dog is house trained before being put into a run,it's always worked for me and none of mine ever mess in their run/kennel.Only use disenfectant once every 4 months

As someone who does this on a commercial basis!! we have tried most of the disinfectants over the years. We now use (and have done for about 10 years) http://mistralie.co.uk/products/odourfresh-pet-disinfectant-premium - I buy in bulk and it is really good stuff, animal safe, smells good and cleans really well too.
