Level 2 done

I do not charge for witnessing they come to stalk deer. I will not write up a PC just because some one could take there gun out of a bag with out shooting me. I have tried to write up a ICR that someone else has started and its a nightmare. But they are told before the come near me. If they don't like it they can use a differnt AW. Water off a duck back lol.

DSC2 cannot be failed and decision on the Award of DSC2 does not rest with the AW

DSC cannot be awarded without the satisfactory completion of PC 4.6

No one has mentioned the candidate failing L2 until now
but this question was not about failing L2
If the candidate can't sucessfully complete 4.6 then they hav failed to complete an ICR...!!!!!
would you sign off the rest of the ICR knowing the candidate was not upto the required standard to complete an ICR ???

No! They have not failed anything!
PC 4.6 is just that, nothing more. The fact that a candidate is not up to standard for that PC does not mean that they should not be signed up for the remainder of the PC's within that ICR if they have all been successfully achieved. They just have to do PC 4.6 again at another time.
It is preferable to get them all done in one go and it does make the paperwork easier for all involved, but it not the end of the world if it doesn't happen and a good AW should be flexible enough to adapt to the needs of the candidate. Some people can't afford to do numerous stalks to get everything right all in one go! Each ICR has boxes for 3 AW's to sign at the end of each ICR for good reason!;)
AW's that charge money and insist on 'all or nothing' are not operating as they should and should be reported to DMQ! 6 pointer doesn't charge which is comendable, and if he briefs that it is all or nothing and you don't perform, then you have lost nothing. However, there is much potential for abuse of the DSC 2 system here though! I would think that any stalking guide that offers the chance of a 'free' DSC 2 stalk for the price of a normal stalk would be more likely to take bookings than one which just offered a basic stalk. It would then be very easy to deny the full ICR on the grounds that one PC was not fulfilled just to save writing it all up, and potentially having the client return to try again. Once again, if you feel that you have been subjected to this kind of treatment, you should report it to DMQ and the AW will be removed from the AW list!

So would you sign off an ICR knowing the candidate was not up to a required standard to complete the ICR
this is not about 4.6, as David used that as an example We could of easily used 1.2 instead

I would happily sign off all the PC's other than those I was not happy with. The ICR is therefore incomplete. You do not sign of an entire ICR as such, just the component parts. Until all PC's are signed off, the ICR is incomplete.

Ok Rich another scenario perfect stalk shot etc etc however PC 2.2-2.3 candidate shoots deer you ask the candidate where did you aim, and from the reaction where did you hit candidate answers heart and the reaction was heart shot. However upon gralloching the animal the heart has been missed high what would you sign off or not.

Scenario 2 candidate perfect in every other way except pulls shot and brisket shoots animal therefore 2.2 not achieved but on follow up restalks animal and successfully chest shoots animal. Has the candidate completed the ICR and demonstrated competence of PC 2.2 or not.

david
first scenario
guy/gal says heart shot
so is this a chest shot?
you need to satisfy that shot placement was in an intended area

Scenario 2 is pretty much the same as mistakes happen and a successfull follow up has occurred
this is what I would expect from a L2
to rectify and sort out any problems that may arise
if they were not able to follow up then that is a different issue

Firstly, congratulations Pierre - well done on getting through your portfolio. :)

I understand where 6Pt is coming from on this one - irrespective of the 'terms of his contract' the fact is, he is witnessing someone who considers themself an experienced stalker. Three completed ICRs and our hairy hunter is potentially due to receive his DSC2 qualification.

For example, our 'experienced' stalker bumbles through the stalk, then screws up the shot & gut shoots a deer. He claims a partial, before shooting a further animal cleanly, rested off a high-seat on another occasion. This would be sufficient evidence of ability to qualify as a completed ICR.

Do we really feel this hunter is actually performing at DSC2 level - or does a 'pass' make a mockery of the qualification?

You decide for yourself, I know what I expect from a 'DSC2'certified hunter.

Rgds

Thats just it, you don't get to decide. They either full fill a PC, and it gets signed or they don't.
