Yes, I think vizslamad got it in one with his comment yesterday. Forget about all the hi-tech, scent-blocking, UV-filtering, camo-patterned stalking clothing and remember that 99 times out of 100 it's movement that's the giveaway.

As the Boss man puts it; "If you see the deer first, you have to make a mistake. If the deer sees you first, the deer has to make a mistake".

That's why you can never stalk too slowly in woodland. When you're moving yourself it's very difficult to spot movement, so stay still and scan...then scan again...and only then move on to the next tree.

The whimpering you can hear is my lab, Fallow, at the base of the high seat. But then after 10 seconds you'll hear the doe giving it rooty-toot! If you don't get it after a minute then you don't deserve to be called deer stalkers And yes, you'll see the doe first, then the buck. It's only the doe that's barking though - the buck's mind was obviously on other things

They stayed there even after I climbed down from the high seat. I had the scope on them a dozen times, but the buck was just too nice to shoot (leave that for a client) and the doe didn't look that fat. I must be getting soft in my old age!

I'm afraid the iPhone doesn't have a stability system, and I'd obviously had my cup of coffee on the way to the stalking ground! Rhubarb and Custard indeed

Too true mate. Brings back memories of that buck we had 2 years ago. How far was it.........5-7yards.

Yes, but he made one hell of a big mistake when he finally decided to walk down the slope and in front of a suitable backstop
