Concrete for new dog run

The other way to look at it is on a drive way at a house.
How many driveways have 3'x2' slabs that are used by 4x4s.
I certainly do - built it up with 6" of hardcore with a 2" layer of strong dry mortar mix on which the slabs sit.
Capable of taking the Disco day in day out and no deflection - and most importantly no reinforcement.

If you can wait until Monday I'll do the calcs to prove what reinforcement would be required in a kennel flooring.

Maybe it's because there is an 'expansion joint' every three feet and every two feet so it wouldn't crack ....

"RD - I don't need to as I look after the Bridge as part of my day job
That as well as the Tay Bridge and a couple of thousand other structures for Network Rail - so give me some credit as it is a big part of my job!"

LE, the new Fort crossing is a ROAD bridge so what would Network Rail have to do with it?
Also i know the reinforcing is coming from India and i also know the job has dozens of steel fixers so are they just standing by incase?
Structural concrete is never poured without reinforcing and i poured to piles on the entry and exit ramps on that bridge and the re-bar was 3" in diameter and 10% by volume.
You will be telling us the Forth Rail bridge is made of Play-Doh next?
Any concrete sections on the new bridge is without doubt made of "pre-stressed" sections.
Clackmannan bridge was decked by this method poured on the north side by Hansons.

:Dall this talk of steel. Know one has yet, but then I haven't read it all!!!! mentioned, concrete grade, aggregate size, cement types, additives, pour height, curing period/process, slump tests, crush tests, but I guess its all to come.

I know I shouldn't but I just could help myself:oops:

Coat on and leaving:lol:

What ! You mean to say that you didn't want to build a motorway bridge too ?:???:
:D

I was going to suggest that I wouldn't have anything less than 20mm 316 stainless plate for such an important job as a kennel floor :D
Make sure you have plenty of shotgun cartridges to deter the local "scrap collectors" though.

I promised myself I wouldn't do this but
Decent compacted base say 3 to 4 inches hardcore, concrete 4:2 and 1, but of anti crack mesh will more than do the job. Or same base 2x2x2 slabs like the council use, then either bed on compacted sand or morter, leave joints half inch wide then point with 3:1 mix and parge up edges so sand can't escape.

This is my humble opione

Couldn't help myself here Norma if you actually do happen to bxlls up the concrete i will come and self level it for you with granite chippings in hard as bell metal cleans lovely got it in my kennel before any one starts I've been a floor layer for 30 years  Sorry Norma

RD - the Forth Crossing team took the design for the cassions from the Railway that's what it has to do with.
Have a look at the attached drawing showing the pier foundations and tell me if the 25m deep mass concrete plug is structural or not and then tell me that unreinforced concrete isn't strong enough for a kennel run!

Been involved with plugging many old mineshafts and illegal ventilation shafts and they are not structural or need reinforcing. (obviously).

Concrete pad all done ( thanks agent+) smooth floated finish and we added steel as there was a pile on the farm .we were a wheel barrow over, at one point I didn't think i'd ordered enough !! Drains all connected to a septic tank and I've installed a dog poo compost bin into the field next to the house (sulo bin ) thanks wf1 just gotta add the worms to it .just awaiting timberbuild to supply the kennels now then install the electrics .
glad I ordered pre mix not cheap but it was poured tamped and floated in less than an hour and glad I had someone who knew how to float it up with a long pole float thingy .
cheers Norma

Wots the score with the dog poo composting bin?

Is it specially for dog poo, can u just chuck it in or do u need to add worms that u mentioned? Quite intrested in doing something more useful wi it.

Ps I'm no plumber so not sure but will the extra water from washing ur kennels down affect ur septic tank?
Think i would be running it into a field drain or even the soakaway from the septic tank rather than throu it? But like i said not entirely sure it is a problem

Kennels installed today by timberbuild of Wigan very pleased indeed just a few modifications by me ie roof the runs in corrugated tin to match the others ,line the sleeping boxs and fit electrics .in response to countryboy the poo bin is working ok need some more worms and the drains are so much better than the old soak away which in clay was never much good in winter .the septic tank is massive as some of the industrial units on the farm are connected too .
i'll post a few pics when I get a moment but again thanks timberbuild highly recommended .
cheers
