.22 barrel shortening

I already use a moderator so with a 24" barrel and mod it is a real spear of a thing when you are trying to shoot out of a vehicle window. If i had it shrotened to 16" and got a shorter moderator will probably loose about 11" which would make a huge difference to getting it in and out of a window.Does anyone know rough cost of shortening and re-poofing

On visiting a guys W/ shop in the rear of his property, I remember seeing a galvanised dustbin partially filled with .22 rimfire barrel offcuts, all around the 4" to 6" length.

I had my CZ452 chopped to 14inch barrel length, crowned and threaded for £30. (not proofed though). This was in west yorks. It shoots just as well if not better, and is a delight in the 4x4 even with a SAK on the end. No noticeable drop in performance at all.

Will try and get someone to thread it without proofing as i do not intend to sell it so therefore sure i am right in thinking it does not legally have to be proofed.I know that some gunshops tell you it has to be proofed but i am sure they are just trying to earn a few more quid

Yes Sam, that's the guy, the job my first mate had done was quickly done, very cheap in monetary terms, & the next friend of mine that used him was upset, he reckoned the crown was b****red on one of his guns, so that was the last visit, we speak to Mike Norris now.

Mick, there is certainly no need to get it re-proofed now. Even if you do decide to sell, need for re-proof is questionable You are not doing anything to remove material from a barrel to reduce it's strength, you are just cutting it short. Jackson rifle's have taken counsel opinion on this subject.

I see everyone mention Jacksons but no-one seems to mention the actual court case of Beatham vs crown in Which the Proof House and Met Police tried to do Joe Betham of Gunshop East Barnet for fitting moderators without re-proof. The crown lost and it cost them a pretty penny in costs. THis is not just Councils opinion but a real court case which surely carries more weight than just opinion?

Ahh, now there is a man who can shoot. Was the second friend a Joiner by the name of Garry??
