  1. Best skinning knifes and graulick knifes/tools

I went to a demonstration of grallocking and carcass prep by a guy who made a knife look like an extension of his fingers. He used a series of knives from professional butchers knives, to one of those small toy knives you used to get on a key ring. They all did the job with varying levels of...
  2. Anyone using N140 with Hornady 150gn sp .303?

I tried them in my Howa with ladder tests etc and found that 43Grn N140 would consistently give MOA at 100yds but no better. Also tried them with N135 with no noticeable improvement. I don't think it was the powder just that the projectile didn't suit my Howa. By comparison 150Grn Nosler 30150...
  3. Clean or not to clean

The main advantage I found with cleaning the brass is that it is easier to see cracks/splits in the case. I used to clean the cases (and everything else) more when I was using Varget, as the cases, chamber and barrel were always full of soot. With the modern Vhit powders, which tend to contain...
  4. removing broken case from die

I had a similar thing happen when the case head tore off when raising the press arm (note to self, lube the case first ). Luckily I had brass rods of the correct size to be able to drive the case out through the decapping pin hole (remove the pin first).
  5. 60g VMAX

I used to run the 60grn VMax with 22.5grn N133 with a col of 2.30 They worked well but if the ambient went up the bolt lift went up. I changed to N135 and it was far more tolerant of the temperature. I had better results with the 60grn Nosler, but I went down to 50 and 55grn VMax like most other...
  6. Cases snagging on exit

Just a thought but did you clean the die before you started using it? Putting the sized cases in a us cleaner or tumbler after working on them should remove all the lube, swarf and anything else that you don't want in there. After researching the same issue I polished the expander ball in my...
  7. Getting started with reloading

Both those cals are easy to reload for, and the dies for both cals frequently come up for sale second hand. The .308 in particular is very forgiving when it comes to small (+/- 0.5grn) charge variations. Not sure on buying consumables in Spain, but you can find a lot of used kit on E Gun, and...
  8. Annealing

Take a look at the videos where they use soap on the case neck. It turns black when the temperature is correct. I've annealed a few thousand cases over the years and it's easy to get it right in a dark room.
  9. Ultrasonic cleaner recommendation

I bought a 2.0 ltr one off ebay many years ago (still about £75 for the 3.0l unit). It gets used for many hours each month and it still works as it should. I still have the JML one that it replaced, the JML one cost £100 about twelve years ago, but some of the resin broke off the vibration...
  10. .17 Hornet.

I had a CZ 17 Hornet. Once I got it all set up correctly it was very nice to shoot, very light to carry around all day and an impressive vermin gun. I agree with post #6 that reloading it was not the easiest thing to do, and was pretty frustrating most of the time. Your 22 Hornet will serve...
  11. varmageddon

Used them in both 17 and 22 cal and they are excellent. Can't complain about the V Max I changed from, but the varms were better priced and very consistent in terms of weight variation in the same box. Very easy to reload.
  12. Digital reloading scales recommendations

I used a Smartweigh gem50 scale for about ten years and it weighed down to 0.01 Grn consistently. They used to be on Amazon for about £40, but you can only get them from the US now or on the auction site. In use I regularly checked it against a beam scale, and my chargemaster and it was always...
  13. Starline vs lapua brass

It depends on what you want to use them for. I used all kinds of new and "once fired" cases over the years, and it really is a case of buy what suits you requirements. IME Starline vary by more than a grain on H2O capacity, which will be negligeable at anything under 400yds, but the neck...
  14. .17 Hornet Reloading

Hornady brass fell apart after two reloads so I changed to resized 22 hornet brass, which held up far better. N110 or N120 are both excellent powders, DO63 was great but very hard on cases. Pm guesty for detailed info as he really worked hard on his 17 and more than matched any factory ammo.
  15. Ultrasonic cleaner

Chinese stainless one off eBay, about £60 Mine had been working for years before I passed it on, and it still does as good a job as the £100 one I was using before it
