  1. Loose mod

Target shooting at Altcar ranges yesterday. Further along the firing line, a moderator 'violently' detached from the barrel of a shooter's rifle on pulling the trigger. Unsure of all the circumstances, but not a good situation. No one injured thankfully. Jamsie
  2. Sizing brass advice

Then purchase a die that allows it. There are plenty out there.
  3. Sizing brass advice

Check your chamber headspace, then subtract 2 thou from that measurement. Set your full length sizing die to produce that measurement. Then ... check your ogive measurement with the projectile you intend to use. Subtract 10 thou from that measurement and set your seating die to produce that...
  4. Split brass

The specific cartridges made in a factory production batch lot. (lot number usually indicated on the packaging)
  5. Split brass

No disrespect, but he did say that specific factory bullet wasn't crimped ... hence my question. I've had brand new Lapua cases that were well over length, so is it not feasible that a few rounds in a specific bullet production run skipped the quality control? Jamsie
  6. Split brass

That 'ring' mark about 3mm down from the case mouth on both cases is slightly suspicious. Could it be that the cases were too long? I've has similar cracks appear on some well-used brass before but never the accompanying 'ring' mark. Did the cases of the rounds that showed no cracks also...
  7. Howa 1500

Our club uses 2 x Howa 1500's in 308Win for target shooting and they are excellent in that role. These are for folks who don't as yet, have their own firearms and I'd have to say that both rifles are well regarded and bombproof. Jamsie
  8. .308 variation : inspire me !

Your opinion. Everyone has one. Jamsie
  9. .308 variation : inspire me !

I would suggest that a round count of 6800 is more believable. I have a Steyr SSG04 with 2600 rounds through the tube and it shoots as accurately as it did with the first shot. A certain amount of throat erosion has occurred as expected, but the hammer forged barrel is holding up well. Saying...
  10. For Sale: Uberti 1873 lever action in .38/.357 magnum

I have one of these. Absolutely brilliant piece of kit. Jamsie
  11. Banning dog breeds

We should probably vote to ban people from publishing such stupid media articles. Jamsie
  12. Hilux early chassis fail: rust perforation after 7 years and just 44k miles of road use in U.K.

Hardly likely on a 2016 vehicle but hey ... anything seems to be possible these days. Jamsie
  13. Deep Cleaning....

    JB Bore paste. Jamsie
  14. Budget 38 / 357mag lever gun.

Bearing in mind the scarcity and likely high price of JM stamped Marlins, I'd be inclined to steer clear of that particular marque. The models produced since Remington took over (and up to present) are dubious in terms of quality control and probably best avoided. Rossi underlevers are...
