  1. ‘Middle Ground’ Culling Calibre

I'd have a punt at a 7-08 I think. I can't really fathom what you're searching for other than something to scratch an itch. There isn't much that can't be done with a .308 and .300WSM combo. All deer can run a bit, even if you turn them inside out at 25m with your .300WSM you'll find the odd one...
  2. lead ban, what calibre too chose?

I've always liked to shoot lead free ammunition. Not that I'm scared of lead, I just like the way they perform. I think the key (and possibly only) issue with it is when velocity drops off. People taking shots at 300m+ tend to see a real reduction in expansion when the bullet slows down at...
  3. Lead and copper through the same barrel

I've found there to be a small loss of accuracy when using both, especially when I had my 6.5x55 and was running 95gr V-Max alongside Barnes TTSX (130gr?). Was it a deal breaker though? Not really! We're talking losing a target competition accuracy loss, not missing a fox accuracy loss.
  4. 257 caliber

You're having a laugh surely? That's madness! Now I want one...
  5. Potato cannon

All good fun, but I can't see it being legal. It's essentially a muzzle loading firearm. Projectile, burning propellant, considerably more than 12ft-lbs of energy even if you disregard the fact it's powered by an explosion. I wonder if it's ever made court? I made a basic musket when I was a...
  6. Would you ?

It'll probably be fine, but I'd pull it. Generally if there's any sign of something being not quite right I take the cautious approach. Ammunition isn't that expensive.
  7. For Sale: Sako 75 stainless .300WSM and .375H&H, Sauer drilling 16g/8x60R

Apparently you're in Bristol? I'm in Cam near Dursley. Come and have a look at it if you'd prefer?
  8. Price of ammo now 🫣

We're British, moaning is what we do!
  9. Price of ammo now 🫣

Home loading is the way forward. I like to send a few down the range with my .416 Rigby once a month. Just looked up Barnes ammo (I shoot home loaded TSX) and a box of facotry ammo is now £270 for 20 rounds! Absolute madness! I used to home load my .22 Hornet for the same price as .17HMR!
  10. 25-06 lead free

Make that three. They're brilliant in my rifle. But then I did lend it to Richard when he was developing the bullet, a requirement of his when I pestered him into producing it! A consistent, well thought out bullet from a UK maker who's always willing to go out of his way to help you. His...
  11. Would you buy a second rifle of the same make and model as you already own, just a different calibre?

Absolutely. Set them up the same and familiarity crosses over between them. They also share magazines so you can take the one from the other rifle as a spare when you go out. Just don't get the bolts mixed up. Easily remedied by engraving the last three digits of your serial number into the...
  12. Rebarrel done, 7mm rem mag by Jager SA

He's done a few rifles for me now. Always does nice work at a fair price and I get on well with him as a person too. His only failing is he's not pretentious, he under sells his ability when his work easily matches those charging a lot more.
  13. Any love for 300 winmag?

If you're not recoil shy it's a pretty versatile cartridge. I've shot a few and shot with people who love it but never owned one. I went for the .300WSM myself, shorter action and a little less powder, a bit nicer to shoot but does a similar job. I don't really do much hill stalking now so I'm...
  14. Recommend me a sound mod for .22Hornet

They don't take much hushing down to be honest. I had a Sak on mine for ages, tried a Panther on it when I burnt out the Sak and it wasn't noticeably quieter. In the end I had an Ase SL5 on it and that was really good, but not over barrel and it was too heavy. You won't need a massive amount...
  15. For Sale: Sako 75 stainless .300WSM and .375H&H, Sauer drilling 16g/8x60R

Two stainless synthetic Sako 75's and a Sauer drilling up for grabs. I need to thin my collection down a bit, I'm not getting out as much as I was. Please ask for photos if you're genuinely interested, life's really busy at the moment and I want to see if I get any interest before I go to the...
