  1. Once upon a time in Poland

Well done Bobo! A successful hunt and a good story? It seem to me that you used a "Stutzen". May I ask you which caliber and bullet?
  2. Rifle firing when moving safety catch.

I had two similar incidents: 1. Ages ago, young and inexperienced, while checking the rifle (a Sako) before the use I noticed that, having cocked the bolt (unloaded) and sliding the safety "on" , the firing pin jumped forward as soon as the safety was "off". A gunsmuth inspecte the rifle...

  5. Elk in Scotland again?

That is, for me, a much wiser idea. In the '800 it was a sort of fashion to import several foreign species, from Father David Deer to Wapiti or whitetail in U.K. and continental. Europe. It seems that the lesson taught by Australian rabbits and myxomatosis has gone forgotten.
  6. Reloading equipment advice

RCBS gear are great and I use them with pleasure and good results. The only exception IMHO is the Lee primer. A fantastically efficient hand tool. The only disadvantage is the dedicated shell holder, different fro the others.

Bavarianbrit, it is true that "shooting the sow creates chaos" but Midlandspaperpunch is a newebie and nobody was born trained and "Phded". A keeper worth his salt should have warned him on this matter.
  9. Sabatti

I never owned neither handed a Sabatti, but I heard contradictory report from Sabatti owners. Someone praised them, someone maintained that only rifles "prepared" for competition by the factory were good, others said that they couldn'y hit the proverbial barndoor. From what I heard I conclude...

  11. Introduction

Welcome! Curiosity killed the cat, but someone would like to know where you share your precious knowledge with your contemporaries.
  12. Muntjac Buck thick skin.

A taylor told me that nowaday skins are split (through the thickness) with large machinery, so expensive that no tannery will use it to split one single skin. Small, family owned tanneries disappeared due to stringent anti pollution regulations.

  15. RCBS Die grub screw fail - again!

Ages ago, when I bought my RCBS dies, I put a Nr.4 pellet (italian size) between locking screw and die body. I never had any problem.
