Hi all - looking at buying a Heym SR20 stutzen with a missing rear sight.
I’d like to use it with open sights, how hard will it be to find a replacement? Either genuine or an after market type.

Thanks
ES

Every competent gunsmith should be able to make you rear sights that would fit to your rifle. I have a SR 20 Stutzen though and those foldable rear sights are great.

Once the Op has the rifle, post the between centres measurement of the two attachment screws. Barrel contour notwithstanding, there may well be a mutiplicity of options from rifle manufacturers of the era.

Hmm it doesn’t appear to be a dovetail. Looks like the sight was straight sided and held down with a screw

I know this seems daft, but have you tried directly contacting Heym at the factory?. They are a bit slow to respond but they will get back to you in the end. I have found them very helpful in the past.

Heym changed hands in 1998 so an SR20 is I assume older than the new company
In 1988, Oskar W. Zurflüh of Zurich assumed management of the company. The company was transferred to Jürgen Nierich, Munich, HEYM Jagdwaffenfabrik GmbH & Co. KG in 1992. They built a modern weapons factory in Gleichamberg / Thuringia, Germany in 1995 and transferred production from Münnerstadt.
On February 1, 1998, Thomas Wolkmann of Erfurt re-established the company as HEYM Waffenfabrik GmbH (Limited), with a strong emphasis on foreign markets especially Eastern Europe and North America. The company went public in October 2002. The name was changed in February 2007 to Heym AG.

New products since 1995:

  • HEYM Straight pull repeating rifle Mod. SR 30 Special Editions
  • Introduction of the HEYM repeating rifle Mod. SR 21
  • HEYM side lock rifle drilling Mod. 37 BK
  • HEYM side lock vierling Mod. 37 V
  • Heym Safari Express Light (based o Mauser 98 system)
  • HEYM side lock double rifle Mod. 88 B/SS Jumbo
  • HEYM Grand Royal - custom made rifle

I have a SR30 in early Grand Royal spec.. its light weight and shoots well. Now on its second barrel as the first owner of the rifle did not look after the original barrel that well.. I have also fitted a bedded "working" Heym stock because the Grand Royals original stock is way too nice to use in everyday UK stalking. Garlands in the UK used to import Heym rifles, not sure if they still do. I am sure Heym will come back with an answer, but also worth trying Garlands.

Alan Rhone stock the Recknagel range. You will have to measure up the dovetail and order appropriately. You will then need to file the dovetail to fit and the file in the V to match the zero of the rifle.

Then blue and final fit.

This does look like a good solution if I can’t find a genuine sight. Relying on my competence with a file and drill to some extent, but I reckon I can manage it. Thank you.
