  1. Do you grip/ hold down your forestock?

I follow Nathan Foster's advice, it is sound and he is correct that supporting the forend does improve consistency. As has been mentioned, a 'cushion' (but not a spongy, springy type - a sand or bean bag is preferable) when shooting from a stand/high seat is ideal as a rest and interface...
  2. Military bullets

Agh... so many myths arise again. All aerodynamically optimised bullets will eventually 'tumble', it is not some devious design, just physics. The larger mass at the rear will eventually rotate 180deg. How quickly it occurs depends on material and velocity. If you dropped a bullet pointy end...
  3. Deer stalking vehicles!!!!!

Ha ha, it's nowhere near as bad as the Navara debacle, but there are issues. I've not heard much about clutch issues tbh.
  4. Carrying dead stuff

PLCE Army bergen is very capable and comfortable. Line with a black bin liner. I use one for stalking. Don't like camo? Spraypaint it green (or any other colour you desire).
  5. Deer stalking vehicles!!!!!

If you're looking for it to last 10years, then a 2nd hand Hilux is going to be worth the money spent after a few years.
  6. Posting knives

That's not one of the 'illegal knives', so according to their own guidance here (scroll down to 'bladed items')- Personal help & support hub | Royal Mail - it is fine to send in the mail, with age verification
  7. Best smelling gun oil ?

Despite me thinking Ballistol is 'quite nice', Mrs Rory does not think so... After using Ballistol to clean and protect my shotgun, she declared that it smells like 'unwashed people'!
  8. Helle knifes

Always a good thing when you find the knife that works for you. It's a very subjective thing, what works for one may be someone else's hell. Another reason that a bricks and mortar seller is the best place to buy a knife from, so you can try it in hand and have a real appreciation of size...
  9. Any Powerpoint gurus?

'Slide master' in PPT is what you seek. This video will explain it, you will only need to watch to about 7min in.
  10. Rangefinder Binoculars

I have 10x42 Vortex Fury and they are very good. Not going to be as clear as Swarovski's, but almost as good as my Steiner Rangers. I would recommend them, especially if you can get a good 2nd pair or new on special.
  11. Reloading Starter Kit?

It's worth buying decent beam scales (RCBS 5-0-5 comes to mind), some good check weights as well. A decent quality caliper would be a sound purchase as sell. With regards to the other stuff, it's much of a muchness, a set of Lee dies will resize and seat your bullets just as well as a set of...
  12. Buck knives

@remington65 - all Buck knives should have a model number on or near the ricasso (flat area ahead of the guard). That should allow you to search for what a new one will cost. Depending on wear and condition, you can probably look to recoup 50-75% of the value on the 2nd hand market. A mint...
  13. Deer parade

Great write up, there is so much more to stalking than shooting deer. I appreciate every outing for all that it might bring, whether seeing a barn owl or seeing the change in vegetation, it's a pleasure to be outdoors in nature.
  14. N Essex Muntjac

Yesterday afternoon I headed out to a rather tight permission with little expectation, as the wind was in 'the wrong direction' (from the NE) really. Cloudy, with sunny patches, the light would be ideal for woodland stalking, giving good dapple and shadow in the trees. Just before 1700 I struck...
  15. The modern rifle?

Having had exposure to highly adjustable skeletonised and multi-calibre (swap out barrel, bolt and mag) rifles, I'll quite happily stick with my .308Win Remington PSS. The only modifications I've made were to put a removable (velcro) Kydex cheek riser on it and had it re-cut to take a different...
