  1. Best route to drive up to Scotland

Sorry this is slow. M6 - M74 - M73/M80 up the east side of Glasgow then M9/A9 Stirling to Inverness. Average cameras from Dunblane to Inverness. From Perth to Inverness the average cameras operate only on the single lane elements (60mph). Each pair of cameras finish as the intermittent...
  2. Looking about a accurate .22lr "tac driver"

I wrote an article many moons ago on my ruger 10/22 target tactical purchase, set up and mods. Might help you. Thread 'Plinking Project Complete - 10/22 Target Tactical' Plinking Project Complete - 10/22 Target Tactical
  3. Shooting from main road in Scotland.

Such a mixed bag of responses. Very interesting read and a good question. Pretty sure you can shoot deer from a road / or a vehicle on a road, on to land (which you have permission to shoot) in Scotland. I don’t think the ownership of the road / ownership of land comments are quite right so...
  4. The Holyrood head clown show..

SNP implosion and I’m not sure why it’s not been clearly called that in the press. Weak as they have ever been IMO. They have all sh!t the bed and gone for stage exit left sharpish. But the real shame is it about 30,000 people that will get to successful like vote for the the next leader of...
  5. Heat Pumps

You might not be so fuzzy when you get your electric bill! Beyond Gas / Ukraine price rises it’s a win for win for electricity companies with this becoming the new norm.
  6. Unpopular opinion

Oh, my all time favourite “I need a pistol for humane dispatch”
  7. Unpopular opinion

Have no access or land, won’t pay to rent some, not a member of a club and never had a shot gun….. ….. FEO rejected my application for .22 / .243 / .270 and .30-06 (along with a request to hold 2000 rounds).
  8. Salmon fishing

https://www.fishforth.org/rivers/river-teith/lanrick-estate/ Plenty of good fishing spots in the central belt of Scotland. Single days with ghillie and accommodation easily organised.
  9. Dog insurance

Self insure. But remember to have serious conversations with the vet when you go, I.e tell them you are paying out of your own pocket. Personally I think it’s crazy to pay £38 pcm (circa £5000 over 10 yrs) to insure a dog.
  10. What Chainsaw? Recommendations?

I have an MS362 arrived next week. To plug a workload gap created by storm Arwen. MS251 (18 inch bar) - very light. MS362 (20 inch bar) for trunks, offering more torque than the above, helpful. MS400i (25 inch bar) - anything that needs 25 inches.
  11. Youth and Estate Rifle

Wowzers - I was wrong and happy to admit it. Just read the legislation myself. You learn something news every day on SD. Better cancel that “introduction to the .30-06 this weekend”…….
  12. Youth and Estate Rifle

Jesus - what nonsense! So my daughter shooting my .22 on targets is illegal!
  13. What Chainsaw? Recommendations?

I run Stihl saws. No complaints at all. In my view the model options often overlap so don’t get hooked up on getting it wrong. If you are buying second hand just avoid a pro saw that has had a tough life. Consider bar length and overall weight. MS 251 / 261 / 271 will all run a decent 18...
  14. Youth and Estate Rifle

I disagree with all of this. The estate rifle rule is being applied incorrectly for these circumstances isn’t it? The estate rifle rules permits the rare circumstances where a rifle is to be used by multiple people (FACS) or loaned (borrowed) for a short period of time? Surely you don’t need...
