Sako carbon fibre stocks.

Looked into this a month or two before Xmas for a model 85 hunter. Wanted a Carbon Wolf stock.. Sako ( GMK ) at that time would not sell it separately..

Or a stock from edi at PSE

PSE everyday of the week.

Yes I would strongly recommend PSE but from what I have read previously the Sako bedding solution is not the easiest one to sort, hence the reason why they do not offer it as a standard inlet.

However I do recall a mention of a stock being made to fit a Sako, so maybe if you ask PSE very nicely they could help you out.

Having seen and handled the exposed carbon lattice stocks that Sako offer, I would not buy one.

I've asked Edi about PSE stock for Sako 85, his answer was no back then. Might have changed his mind, and if he does I'll be in line for one.

I have one of my 85's, a .260 Rem Varmint, in a GRS stock. As the 85 action does have a machined slot for a vertical, floating recoil lug of the same type as the Tikka, GRS utilise this. The stock includes the lug and fitting is "drop in". As I see it, even if I've only had my set.up pillar-bedded, if you can bed a Tikka then you could bed an 85 by forgoing the horizontal lug thingy completely,

Cheers

Having had a look at the insides of a couple of 85's (one wood one synth) I don't see why this bedding system was chose instead of something less complicated (like a Tikka!)

It's a pretty crap bedding system alright. The sako 75 had a better system which was similar to the tikka t3 so I dont know why they changed it. Myself and my mates all had problems with the 85.

Just to be clear here, even although my 85 .260 Rem utilises the "Tikka-style" lug in the GRS stock, my other three 85s (.223 Hunter, .223 Varmint and .308 Hunter) are "original" and all perform flawlessly.

Cheers

Yes, the two 85's I mentioned shot just fine. I have shot 85's in .308, .270 and 6.5x55 and all they worked well.

Good rifles as long as you are happy with the original stock or are willing to spend a lot more on an aftermarket stock, some of which work better than others.

We turned most down who asked us to bed their Sako 85 until we just tried it. A local rifle smith told me to just throw away the little metal bedding piece and bed it like a T3. It worked a treat. Using a normal steel T3 Recoil lug. Actually making it much easier than bedding a Sako 75.
We are looking at 85 but wanted to see if Sako launch anything new.
