I was going to ask this exact question as I have 2 fallow heads festering in buckets of water in the shed. Would 2 months be the ideal as I may get shouted at for the stink if I leave them that long? Would a month do the job and would you go straight from the bucket to the pan, boil then pressure wash to get everything off (rather then trying to take any flesh off before you boil)? ta
Up to you. After two months virtually everything has gone. Pull out eyeballs and its a virtually clean skull goes in the water just to lift off the grease etc. Even that yellow tough old gristle at the back of the skull has gone. 1 month and I guess not quite as soft so a bit more of a boil

Many thanks. I skinned both the heads and removed the bulk of the flesh and removed the eyeballs before they went in. I might try one after a month and the other after 2...I might move them off the floor so the terrier doesnt try and have a snack
