This is saltwater proof and would be fine for permit and such I would probably go for a larger spool and drag for tarpon as retrieval rates would be quicker and a a bigger drag would do no harm although this drag is better than most similar reelsWill there be a saltwater version?

About 370gms less than a hardy Casapedia of the same weight the single handed fly rod version 6-8 weight is lightly ported and in production now should be quite a lot lighterThat really is lovely!
