A superb 10 bore obsolete calibre Winchester model 1901 lever action shotgun. 32" sighted barrel (very good bore) with 2 7/8" (73mm) chamber and bored at approximately 1/2 choke. Under barrel tubular magazine (restricted), wooden fore-end and butt, steel butt plate.

£2500 collected from Kent near Maidstone, or insured postage (UK only) at cost.

Yes, Section 58 (2) of the Firearms Act 1968 regarding so called ‘Antique Firearms’ refers to the Obsolete Calibre List. The list names (amongst many many others - you would be surprised) 10 bore 2 7/8” cartridges as obsolete so any ‘antique’ shotgun with 2 7/8” chambers are classed as an obsolete calibre under S.58 of the act.

S58 also covers such things as ignition systems, that’s why, for example, a 12 bore pinfire shotgun is also an obsolete calibre gun. Anyone buying an obsolete calibre gun is deemed to be buying it as a curiosity or ornament and must not fire it as such. If one wishes to fire the gun, it must be added to the appropriate certificate before doing so.
