A UK stalker's trip to New Zealand

I'm just back from an awesome trip to NZ. I do plenty of stalking here, but I wanted to go somewhere where I wouldn't be hemmed in by boundaries and fences.
A friend persuaded me that I ought to make a video, so I did. The audio isn't always very good because I was just using my phone, but if you're interested here it is:

If anyone else is keen to do the same, just do it. It doesn't need to cost a fortune and you don't need to pay guides or outfitters if you're not trophy hunting. There is a tonne of info on the DOC website, some of it is a bit out of date but you can easily put your own trip together.

Really good to see footage from someone who isnt just plugging the sponsor that funded the trip! Thanks for the real world insight - its appreciated.

Great vid, really captured the whole experience. I'm originally a Kiwi but mainly grew up in North Wales, that made me want to return

Great video, thanks for sharing.

Its a shame they don't do the YouTube bit at the end of Fieldsports Britain anymore, used to recommend some interesting stuff, this would have been perfect.

Couldn't help feeling this is Waitrose XL freezer bag hunting as that's about all the venison I'd be prepared to 'recover' from any of the beasts the Op shot!

Like K - I was thinking how fantastic it would be to do that, then realising I should have done it 30 years ago as there’s no way I’d be able to do it now ☹️
I got this trip past the wife by pointing out that I will be 50 next year and it might be now or never. That said, I'd like to think that I will still be fit enough in 20 years time.

Good on you. It looks like you had the adventure you were looking for, that's for sure. It's big country, isn't it?

I (gently) laughed a bit at your boots. Most alpine boots aren't meant to be in and out of water all day, and not many survive. As for waterproof...... I drill or melt holes in the instep to let the water out, as it will surely get in.

Was your Sika day at Clements Mill Rd? There are a lot of deer in there, but as you noticed there are plenty of people too. It backs on to a heap of country though, and a metric sh1tload of venison comes out of the place. I'm half an hour down the road, but tend to hunt elsewhere in the main.

Yes, I went in on Clements Mill Road, it was a Sunday to be fair, but OMG there were a lot of hunters around. I'm sure that if I'd pushed further south I could have found quieter ground, but that was my first experience of public land hunting and I was mildly horrified and just wanted to get away. 🤣
