Night shooting deer under CL55 - Police Notifications

I did kind of cover this above but appreciate the point. This is in one area I shoot in Devon and I think the police were making the point that they would react quickly to reports of deer poaching (whether they do or not is another matter).

I have never notified the police when out after foxes or rabbits as it is not a requirement...if it was I would.

We need to be responsible and stick to the rules whether we want to or not. Back to copper...when lead is banned anyone who says that they will carry on regardless is a fool as you are admitting to breaking the law and risking something we are all really passionate about. I hate driving at 20 mph in most welsh villages...but I do. I will wait for the abuse to start :)👍
No abuse here but I very much doubt the police would respond to deer over any other poaching quicker ? I just see it as a way of adding unnecessary restrictions

Agreed. I despise the situation we are in but apart from shooters (who are a minority in the UK) no one else give a f**k. I imagine we are the worse treated minority .... but lets not get into that 👍

Think you have lost the plot there mate. Plenty of us who have been shooting at night for decades without issue.

Maybe best not to comment on something you clearly have no idea about. Or perhaps I should phrase it as "some idiots should be banned from posting nonsense" 👍
I first used NV back in the early 2000’s when archer was first released, I also think shooting deer at night and all this night license BS is a ****ing 💩 idea!

I know enough about wounded deer that I could get the whole thing shut down just on animal welfare grounds, or make it very nearly impossible to get!

It’s not the experienced stalkers that are the problem it’s the wannabe experts who don’t have a clue that are the issue and no **** pot night shooting course is going to make it right.

Line I said before permissions are small in England boundaries are easily crossed.

I could a good minority you look very very stupid quite easily, over wounded deer especially if shot at night.

If you ain't got time to shoot them in the day don't bloody bother
Didnt mention deer in my comment mate. I was drawing attention to your general comments that nothing should be shot at night.

And in general I "wont bloody bother" to shoot deer at night 👍

Mate...I look stupid all the time so not worried about that. I was just objecting to stupid comments about shooting at night being unacceptable.
I think it’s unacceptable purely on animal welfare grounds!

Anybody who wants to go with me on that subject I could lay a night wounded deer shot site seminar and very quickly and make you all look ****ing idiots

Cant really comment as never shot deer at night. Shot plenty of foxes, rabbits and hares at night and very very low rates of injury on them.

Time will tell I suppose.

Meant to ask if you could write this in English as I dont understand Feral norfolk talk :lol: Are you saying Im stupid? No issues if you are 💋
You on your ground in Devon under night license, you shoot chest shoot a fallow and it runs into cover, there is blood you follow and the blood stops? What you going to do next?

So assuming I would actually be using the night licence and we had permission to go onto adjacent cover same process as during the day...search ground utilising thermal and torches to look for further evidence of blood etc or dead deer. If no deer can be found then quick call to one of the lads (my mate knows a lot of guys with good tracking dogs) get dog out find deer 👍

I have nothing but a hunch to go on but I’m guessing more deer are currently wounded in daylight than at night?
But what are you gonna do if you do mess up at night?

That is gonna suffer when you can’t find it, and then you have an animal welfare issue because that dear is suffering unnecessarily

That presuming you have access to the ground next door, and following with a thermal torch will only push it on, extending the suffering even longer

Same thing I’d do in the daytime.
Get a dog to track the deer (mine or a friends).

Isn’t best practice to allow not track the deer too soon,? Therefore probably first thing in the morning would be enough of a delay and not too long either?
