If it's literally a requirement for some, how is it a "brain dead course". It's like calling a driving license a brain dead course just because you learnt by driving around your farm for years.I’m not negative at all, I just see it of what it is, another brain dead course, making you part with your hard earned cash.

Some of us even had the course cost subsidised because they need the fallow numbers handled
I think your wrong Lee, its not the fact that people are desperate to shoot deer at night! they are just using it as a useful tool in the box when they are struggling to control some species of deer under normal culling activities.I’m an ex keeper I can shoot at night if I need too, I’ll be buggered if I’ll do it!
I just watch all you lot that are so desperate to shoot deer at night, I think it’s hilarious![]()

Yes there's some element of truth in that statement and there will always be people who just won't to do a course.Tony,
When you watch people that you know have no ground, lineup to do the course because it’s another certificate in their army it is hilarious!
All it will do is push the deer into places where they can’t be got simple as that, yes short gains will be made but in the long ball park they will just change. It’s called survival that’s what they do.

Fallow and Red will always go to where its safe when pushed when you put them under any pressure day or night.
They did. I got a phone call offering me the subsidised course. If you government won't more deer culled and making it legal to shoot at night under licence then perhaps they should be paying for people to do the course.
Inot "desperate to shoot deer at night". It'll be another string to a bow, that will work in some places and not in others.you dont need " qualifications " been asked if i have dsc once in 20 years
Honestly though, some of these comments just amount to elitism or gatekeeping. It's all "they only shoot fallow but I shoot red therefore I'm better", "wait until they have to extract a red at night", "I don't need a course because I'm so wise and therefore if you want a course you're just an idiot"
How about you do you and if people want or need a course, let them and don't pass judgement. Don't go out of your way to make posts on a subject that you yourselves say that you have no need of.
Why is this being put down to those who have no permission. So lets respect every ones decision to attend the course or not thought all stalkers were after stalkingThey did. I got a phone call offering me the subsidised course.
I'm certainly not "desperate to shoot deer at night". It'll be another string to a bow, that will work in some places and not in others.

No elitism here just curious as to why some folk love collecting bits of paper ? You don’t need a course to shoot rabbits gates or foxes at night seems ridiculous you should need one for deer , if the government want to allow night shooting fair enough to me valid fac insurance and written permission is more than enough, but again some folk are just cert collectors and in my experience they’re the ones actually not shooting many deer at allThey did. I agree with you but in deer stalking you have so many money making schemes . so how many courses will we have in a few years time and the cost.No elitism here just curious as to why some folk love collecting bits of paper ? Who tested the instructors?
- New CL55 best practice (as best practice is now mandatory. Covering legalities and the "why".
- Deer ID test (species and sex, taken with NV, thermal, and white light). This one is ridiculously hard. Everyone struggled with the thermal ones.
- Night safety shot test (look at various deer targets and confirm safe shot or not)
- Night safety chat (like the DSC1 safety chat, but at night)
- Night shooting test (basically a DSC1 test, at night). No bother.
But they've put it as a condition of the CL55 (category 1), so unless you meet another category then you need it. I'm not saying everyone needs CL55, but some will and some people are in an area of such need that they actually got phone calls asking them to attend subsidised courses. No elitism here just curious as to why some folk love collecting bits of paper ? I just think it’s laughable personally if we refused to put up with such ridiculous courses they’d be forced to relax the rules and it would be the same as lamping rabbits foxes etc but as I say folk love a course far too many sheep in this gameBut they've put it as a condition of the CL55 (category 1), so unless you meet another category then you need it. Refuse to do them they’re not necessaryI agree with you but in deer stalking you have so many money making schemes . so how many courses will we have in a few years time and the cost.
They say licensing fees are putting of shooters plus course cost no wonder folks are leaving.
If you have a DSC2, you don't need the course.Ive been told that you must have your DSC2 to sit the course but that is not what i'm getting from other threads.
