I am here...what do you want to ask me?I wonder if PJ will be joining SD any time soon.

I'd be very surprised if he's not a member already.I wonder if PJ will be joining SD any time soon.
I hope so - he needs to read the room. This is not the way the industry or community should conduct itself.I'd be very surprised if he's not a member already.
Most AVs are existing or former AWs.....not all have dropped AW involvement in favour of the PDS qualification ..fingers in both pies is not a crime....Surely they have to hold a formal Assessor qualification?
AW’s maybe but my question was are they formally qualified Assessors? Most AVs are existing or former AWs.....not all have dropped AW involvement in favour of the PDS qualification ..fingers in both pies is not a crime....
and made worse by us agreeing to it and not challenging itWhilst I cannot stand PJ, from a business perspective he is laughing and getting qualifications mandatory is a sure fire way to get more money.
If you look at a lot of industry you cant walk onto a site without a load of quals CSCS, CCNSG etc etc...if you want to do that job you get the qualification or you dont do the job.
Whilst I agree that we shouldnt be forced down that route its going to happen...and that has been proved by FEOs asking for DSC1 to grant deer legal rifles, or the CL55 requirements etc.
I dont disagree...and made worse by us agreeing to it and not challenging it
Personally I see 1 & x2 as good ways to show some sort of competency. As without them there is nothing but good will and reputation (which should be enough if everyone was equally trustworthy). As I've said before my issues come from how PJ acts and presents himself. I personally don't like the idea of an online course that people can literally Google the answers to, but thats the way of the world these days!I think we must be talking about a different BASCturkeys and Christmas how are level 1&2 not being used to make folk part with hard earned cash ?
thats the thing though knowledge and experience done seem to matter much anymore at all just money making courses as @tjm160 post shows ? the thing is by going the path of least resistance we opened ourselves up for more regulation and yet people are shocked by this , or worse think its a good thingI dont disagree...
If you look at all other industries there has to be some sort of tangible demonstration of competence and yet we are just assumed to be competent by holding a FAC? I appreciate training and competence are different and knowledge and experience are important facets... its not easy and sometimes (wrongly) its just easier to go path of least resistance ....
Equally, you should be shocked by the number of supposedly experienced stalkers who fail DSC1 due to lack of some very basic knowledge or an inability to shoot straight.thats the thing though knowledge and experience done seem to matter much anymore at all just money making courses as @tjm160 post shows ? the thing is by going the path of least resistance we opened ourselves up for more regulation and yet people are shocked by this , or worse think its a good thing
fully agree Tim , flip side is ive taken guys out who have level 1 and 2 deer managers etc who i would not trust with an airgunEqually, you should be shocked by the number of supposedly experienced stalkers who fail DSC1 due to lack of some very basic knowledge or an inability to shoot straight.
There’s a lot of people in this game who rate themselves much higher than they ought to.
Probably down to his presentational style? Some people come over brilliantly on camera , others less so!i think youre missing my point , hes not doing anything dmq dont do so why the outcry ?
thats true but the principle is exactly the same , folk are happy to dismiss the pds scheme but dare say the dmq is the same and they get very upset , doesnt make sense to meProbably down to his presentational style? Some people come over brilliantly on camera , others less so!
No easy answer there Chris. I personally enjoyed DSC1 and it did teach me a good bit . DSC 2 was also good but appreciate that was more of a "demonstration" then necessarily training...though there were a few areas that I improved on...overall I feel both helped me...but no where near as much as time in the fieldthats the thing though knowledge and experience done seem to matter much anymore at all just money making courses as @tjm160 post shows ? the thing is by going the path of least resistance we opened ourselves up for more regulation and yet people are shocked by this , or worse think its a good thing
My understanding is that DMQ started putting unwelcome financial & time obligations on their AWs leading some to look further afield. At least DMQ is a centralised entity, non profit organisation. The origins of DSC from the BDS which are an animal welfare charity.
I get it, in many cases practitioners have strayed from this mantra. We all know AW who are rip off artists. Maybe this system needs cleaning up. I’m certain there are people on here with a nuanced take on this.
What I am certain about is that PJ et al are not the saviour. They’re in it, from the get go, to edge out competition (as is nicely demonstrated in the video) and maximise their interests.
theres your answer...but no where near as much as time in the field![]()
More likely set up his own alternative?I wonder if PJ will be joining SD any time soon.
sounds about right for the fast track stalker badgetheres your answer
Before I did my level two, I shot 100 Deer, now anybody can do level two just by rolling over 1 so in theory you can do it the next day after your level one with little or no experience as long as you’ve got half an idea and can tick the boxes! No easy answer there Chris. I personally enjoyed DSC1 and it did teach me a good bit .
