If Mods come "off ticket"

Interesting selection of moderators.

What are far left dimpled ones?
Presume far left rimfire?

Do you have different mods for same rifle/caliber?
If so why.
Are they all to suit different threads/calibres or use?

Freyr I have two and a DPT, noise reduction and weight they are all very good.

I have the original Freyr 280 on a 300 win mag and often commented on as very quiet.

I have a Freyr 200fm on a 6.5 PRC.
Again very good but a little longer than I would like., 170mm forward

Have just bought a big barrel DPT with a muzzle brake option to try on my 6.5 PRC.
95 mm forward as previously said but heavier than Freyr.

Also bought similar for 300 Win Mag to try and reduce muzzle flip and again reduce overall length.
Will collect them this week and try!

I'm concerned about mods coming off ticket when I consider my "optics illness" I am not sure I can finance another addiction. It will be like going in to a pub and seeing the top shelf and convincing myself that I have nothing remotely important to do the following day.

I’m not convinced with titanium

Light, yes, sound attenuation lacking behind, get so bloody hot you can literally get a third degree burn touching one after a string of shots. Last a long time, yes…cost a lot, yes…you can buy 4 better moderators for the cost of one titanium.
I have a wildcat ti elite and wish I saved my self some money and got the steel one . 3 shots on my 28NOSLER and you can't touch it . and it weighs more than advertised

Timbrayford is spot on ,soon as I saw this had a look on the grubament website.
They reckon it'll be around June for the new legislation to be finalized.
But yes ticket holder for purchase.

I short I like lightweight mods for stalking that don't affect the balance of the rifle but if I have a heavy range session like working up a new load, they are not the best for range work. The 2 of the right are Wildcat EVO with baffles for .243, .270 and .308 and bridges to suit my CF rifles and they take the brunt of any prolonged range work.

Extreme left is a SAKS from my Ruger 10/22 - little used. Then we have a Freyr & Davik UTS131 used on my .270, a F&D FW149 used on my .243, an Oceania Defence Alpine Hunter on my lightweight .308, and finally, a F&D UTS231 used on my heavyweight .308. In the bags are thread adapters so that I can use any mod on any rifle (subject to calibre - most are 6.5/.30 cal) - I learnt a hard lesson when it took me 3 months to get a 1-4-1 when the sole .30 Cal lightweight mod I used to use on 2 x .308s went "South" and I sooooooo hate heavy mods when stalking. The EVOs are 420g, the F&D's 131g, 149g and 231g as per their designations, and the OD Alpine 167g. All the F&D's (bar the FW) and the OD are Ti.

I sincerely hope moderators come off ticket. The official process is in train. Let us hope it doesn't get derailed.

I say this because I once spent two years on a Government-sponsored working group trying to resolve a contentious countryside issue. We duly issued a report in 2010, making recommendations which the then Government promised to include in legislation. We were aware that certain departmental officials, in thrall to the usual suspects, were keen to get the matter kicked into the long grass. However, our recommendations were eventually included as part of a wider Act which gained Royal Assent in 2015. Most of that Act has now been in force for years - but not the key provisions originating from our 2010 recommendations.

That particular section of the Act has not still not been fully "commenced" and there is no indication of when it will be. It seems that unelected but powerful officials in the relevant department are capable of holding up the bureaucratic "commencement" procedure and effectively thwarting the will of Parliament, yet none of our current crop of politicians seems inclined to get a grip on them. So, the relevant legislation just sits there, on the statute book for more than a decade, but not actually "commenced".

With moderators, we can but hope for a smoother progression. So far so good.

Has anyone heard any 'genuine' updates on the potential for Mods coming off the FAC recently?
I know the idea was floated and 'most of us' signed the petitions that were being distributed by clubs etc to push the point that it would be a popular decision, but it's either all gone quiet since, the idea was dropped by the authorities, OR (more likely) I just haven't seen anything in the way of an update to suggest this is really going to happen any time soon. Thoughts?

I think when they do come it will be better storage wise will free some room in cabinet or ammo safes they can live on radiators permanently if needed and will get better air circulation through them
Presuming off course that the secure storage obligation is removed too, anyone know precisely what is being proposed?

Moderators are all doing basically working on the same principal . Differences are not vast and no moderator can truly silent the report of a bullet leaving the barrel faster than the speed of sound . Instead get the one that balances the rifle well

If the current government actually does take Moderators off of our Firearm certificates , it will easily be the only thing in 20 months that they have done that I agree with. I withhold my joy until we see the detail. They absolutely hate the countryside , farm inheritance tax, banning trail hunts, putting 20% on Uber's, obliviously affecting rural areas with greater distances to travel, the winter fuel debacle, wanting to have the countryside , "be less white, and more open to other cultures",it goes on and on. I don't trust them at all.

That said, I would like a Svemko for my .30-06.

Update: Key Proposed Changes
  • Removal from Section 1 Classification: Sound moderators will no longer be classified as "firearms" in their own right under Section 1 of the Firearms Act 1968.
  • No Individual Authorization (Variations): Rifle certificate holders will no longer need to apply, pay for (£20 per variation), or wait for police approval to acquire a moderator.
  • A "Possession Only" Offence: To maintain public safety, the government plans to create a new offence for possessing a sound moderator for a Section 1 firearm without holding a valid firearm or shotgun certificate.
  • Unrestricted Storage and Trade: Once the law changes, moderators can likely be stored as non-licensed accessories and potentially sold online.
  • Impact on Different Users

Rifle Owners (Section 1)No longer need a "slot" on their certificate; can buy/sell without police notification.
Shotgun Owners (Section 2)Generally unaffected; moderators for standard shotguns remain largely unregulated.
Airgun UsersNo change for most in England/Wales. In Scotland, airgun moderators remain regulated under the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015.
Current Status & Timeline
The reforms were accepted as a government amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill in the House of Lords on 25 February 2026.

  • Expected Law Date: The Bill is expected to receive Royal Assent and become law by mid-May 2026.
  • Current Requirement: Until the Bill formally becomes law and is "commenced" by the Home Secretary, existing rules apply. You must still have a valid variation on your firearms certificate to possess or buy a moderator.
