Lost FAC

My FAC has been lost by Royal Mail whilst sending it back to the MET for a variation (no tracking updates for more than a week), and I have applied for a replacement certificate. I was wondering if the new one will be issued with the same certificate number, or if a new number will be issued?
I lost my FAC once - got a new one pretty quick, no awkward questions, just a pragmatic approach (Gloucestershire). It had a different number.

Considering the huge hike in renewal fees it should come by special delivery. They ought to consider get a contract with Amazon. D
Don't Kid yourself with SD it also gets things wrong and its very hard to actually get a penny out of them . The only good part is SD is not passed branch to branch across the country ,its train to train then to the delivery nearest to you

A few years ago RM “ lost” my FAC, I found a rifle to buy at the other end of the country and because of the stupid system I sent my FAC off recorded, tracked, next day delivery etc. Phoned the shop next day, no they hadn’t received it, went online to track it and there it was recorded as at the post office then nothing. Went down to the post office to check and they said it had gone but the tracking system doesn’t work if the post person hasn’t scanned the item! Left it a couple of days and phoned the shop again, still not there. Nothing online. Phoned the FLD in a bit of a panic, they were very laidback about it, leave it another week and see what happens they said. Tried to find out where it was but all the system wanted to know was how much was it worth, and how can you prove it! After about another 5 days the shop phoned to say it had arrived, so about 2 weeks after I had sent it next day delivery! So my experience is that you can pay for all the bells and whistles but the tracking part is only as good as the posties scanning it and if you can’t prove it has a monetary value you can’t interrogate the system.
The FLD send them out second class, so now I just get proof of posting. Much cheaper!

The renewal fees and first grant of a shotgun / firearms certificate / licence !!. I would gladly pay an additional cost of tracked postage for peace of mind

My reply was really directed at the first post . Personally speaking i normally hand deliver at force HQ , indeed i think its better security !
Met FET is based at Marlowe House (formerly Sidcup Police Station) which is no longer open to the public. They don’t even have a phone number any more, all communication is via online forms.

I sent my FAC in for renewal a fews back. Recorded , tracked and it got lost. I knew where it was, Pitt Street! They themselves had lost it
