The out yesterday or today thread and...

You sound just like me - i get gutted with stuff like that - BUT dont beat yourself up SD - you are doing a great job !
Cheers. I think I have to brave the storm tonight. Probably a shotgun and light if it's going to blow as they say, if I don't look I'll go nuts!

Just been to push some crows of sown barley and well, it wasn't worth a photo and in fact embarrassing. 36 shots for 19 🤦

Popped out at 5.30 pm in search of my 1st buck of the season but no luck.

I did actually stalk into a malform with a lame front leg but the only shot offered was unsafe and off he went.

Next I decided to lay out and watch some cover from where the deer always emerge. It was freezing 🥶 but I stuck it out until 2 roe emerged but unfortunately both does , anyway I watched them for a good half an hour ever hopeful a buck would appear but no such luck. The does eventually fed to within 30 yds of me totally oblivious.

A barn owl silently glided overhead and flying just over the deers back without them even noticing 😁

Nice to be out but chilled to the bone.

Out at my shoot this afternoon, was meant to be meeting someone there but a family problem meant he couldn’t make it, I’d taken the.223 with me as was planning on a bit of foxing after we’d had a look for a fallow, anyway, I had a couple of hours walk around its was bloody freezing but lovely to be out, the bluebells are starting to come through now so a couple of weeks and there will be a carpet of blues and purples, shame the lad couldn’t make it as I stumbled across 3 bucks but there will always be another day. As I lost the light I gave it a couple of hours with the caller but nothing showed, hopefully get back up during the week for a buck if the lad can make it, it’ll soon be the end of April, another year that’s flying by IMG_4489.webpIMG_4490.webpIMG_4492.webpIMG_4494.webp

Saw a few carrions on a freshly drilled field whilst attending to the bees (well making sure Dave hadnt blown the hives over) . Spoke to the farmer to make sure the field was his and then over Sunday morning. A bit showery and blustery but not to bad. Set up and shooting by 8.30 which is late for me but farmer only phoned me back Sunday morning about 7.00. Slow and steady so called it a day about 11.30 with 27 on the deck. I appreciate those eagle eyed will point out that there are only 23 in the pic...the other 4 dropped in the adjacent fields

Carrions can take shot , I shot one yesterday and couldn't believe it didn't drop but knew I had hit it.

Kept my eye on it fly the whole field before dropping dead.

No shooting for me for a few days as the dreaded Gout reared its ugly head and I cant walk 😔

Sorry to hear about your gout mate...not nice :(

They are tough sods...if I think its a solid hit I dont waste a second shot anymore....just watch them fly on and drop 200-300 yards away.

The bit that frustrates me is that they are the ones that seem to attract the others...so end up going and picking them up ...well sometimes lol :)

Spot on , if a bird drops way out I always pick it up. As you say that is the bird others decoy to even though you have a pattern ...strange isn't it.

👍 I was being lazy the other day as the ones that dropped in the grass fields didnt seem to attract the live birds for a change...fox can have them
