Good Friday = no meat?

The fish van comes to the house on a Friday ( not on Good Friday, but generally speaking) so we usually have breaded haddock and green veg on a Friday, very occasionally a haddock mornay on the Saturday, but fresh haddock simply cooked is hard to beat.

Growing up in an era when going to Sunday school as a child was more the rule than the exception, I’ve always had fish on Friday, though I’d consider myself to be very much small ‘r’ religious, to the point that the ‘r’ may often appear to be nearly invisible. As time goes on though, I find I’m more appreciative of the good in this world than the evil.

Respect for all living things and an acute awareness of how fine the thread of life is, for all.

My abhorrence for the present conflicts and their root causes stem from this appreciation.

Just wondering how many on here observe this tradition?

Whilst I grew up in catholic household, my dad wasn't strict about much of it, but we never had meat good Friday. Wasn't until I got older realised not everyone did it!

Anyone else?
Some sort of meat every day for me.
If i could i'd have a roast dinner every day.

I know I'm not alone in finding it ironic, how so many on here bemoan the apparent loss of Christian values in "our Christian country" and yet are seemingly so ignorant or uninterested in the religion of "our" country.

Seems as though the same people who "don't want other religions rammed down our throats" aren't actually that bothered after all. Weird. Convenient charade perhaps.

Feast well tomorrow 🕊

To each their own. If you don't want to eat meat on any day, then fill your boots. Same if you don't want to eat meat at all or are full on vegan. Just don't dictate what I do!

However, there was a family that lived next to us that had a young boy who would only eat jam sandwiches. If that were my boy, he'd find that the jam sandwich tree had died.

Never had the no meat Friday thing .
Dad was an atheist, both grandad and great grandad war veterans had lost all faith in religion.
Only fish we had was the ubiquitous fish fingers .
As Pedro said believe and live how you want but don't force it on others please.

We are bothered Ben, we really are. I don't consider 'Christian Values' are exclusive to Christians they are the rules by which all good people live and have done so long before Christians came along.
