THE PRETEND KEEPER

Been up to the shoot today for a meeting with the shoot captain and my apprentice, I’ve somehow let them convince me to build another pen on the far side of the shoot ( piggeries ) I’ve spoken with the land owner and now have to have a meeting with forestry, I don’t know how I let people talk me into these things, if forestry ok it then the members will be getting told that their fees will be going up 😬

Been doubling one of mine in size. Bizzare how a small job can grow. But in all fairness there has been good numbers turning up to work parties

Somewhere recently, on here ?, I came across a thread of using soda bicarbonate mixed into doughballs for getting rid of rats. Anyone ever tried this ? Presumably you drop them into the holes.

I’ve got a plague of rats in my cover crops and do not want to risk poisoning my kestrels or barn owls so interested in any effective solutions like this.

A few decent terriers, a smoker and a couple of spades, and you can have a few hours of fun.
Work methodically down the strips. If some of the dogs will "Mark" dig those out. As you work down the strip, make sure you fill any holes as you go, that way, any rats breaking back have no chance, and you will be able to gauge how well you have done if there are no holes opened up the next day.
You won't have a better morning sport than a pack of decent terriers that know their job.
