Old age and getting run down

Thanks for all the responses, will keep going as long as I can, still in two Pheasant shoots but have to be carefull how far I can walk on the day, still enjoying it at the moment, just hope the pigeon shooting is better this year, can usualy drive in for that.

Youngsters the lot of you! .76 years young life long keeper and stalker still working though admittedly not full time any longer.
Heart attack 16 years ago, and a stroke at Christmas last year almost fully recovered foot drags a bit if I get tired and speech can be a bit garbled just need to talk a bit slower and I'm fine.
Hope to go back to the stags this Autumn.
Keep going lads age is a state of mind.
Boggy forever young.

Not that I’m old 😂
I’m 58 now and have had a lifetime of keeping very fit . Road cycling mostly with all sorts of sport thrown in
Football , mountaineering racquet sports , you name it I’ve tried it

In between all that has been the constant hunting, Guns , lurchers , ferrets etc

I retired 3 years ago and have not had a single day idle until December last year when a chest infection flattened me for weeks
On the back of that, a disc issue in my back cost me the last of my season beating and loading

Right now, I feel like I’m struggling to get back to it .
My mountain bike is laughing at me and I’ve got so much to do but it’s really a hard fight
Some told me that after 55 things got hard and got harder to get back to , I’m beginning to appreciate that.

Am I the only one or this an actual thing ?
Should I drink more and not worry about it ? 😂
Think yourself lucky you could retire at 55!
Many have to work hard and play hard for many more years than that age before choosing a life of leisure.
KB.

A lifetime of sporting and motorcycle injuries are now coming back to haunt me every day!
At one point I couldn’t walk downstairs without holding on both sides to steady myself - but then my wife made me start doing Pilates with her and it’s the best thing I ever did.
Sure, knees, hips and shoulders are all still well and truly buggered but my core muscle strength is so much better, meaning I can work hard in the garden /paddocks/ hunting, etc all day and wake up just fine.

Go and find a group and give it a try - I promise you will feel so much stronger if you do.

I am going to cap most of you who have written previously to me - age wise.

I will be 87 in June and still stalking whenever I can get there. Up until August of last year I was as fit as one can possibly imagine - and then some.

Then I got a nose bleed whilst driving my truck back to my home. It wouldn't stop. After six hours I had to go to A and E. They stopped it and also discovered that I was very ill with an incurable blood cancer. All of this came as a great shock to me.

Seven months on and four stones lighter it is, temporarily at least, under control by chemo therapy, and I am back out stalking the East Anglian deer.
I dread the day that I can't get out there any more.

It doesn't get any easier, but it is definitely worth all the effort that is required.

Keep at it as long as you possibly can.

Good luck to you Merlyn

That must have been an awful shock.
Still out at 87 is some achievement indeed. Most would be having a Nana nap and a worthers in front of the TV
Just shows how an active outdoors lifestyle can benefit us.

What ad give for the flat ground of Norfolk
Just back from shooting rabbits on one of the hill forms in Durham could do with a Sherpa to help carry them back . Only 8 but gutted still heavy 🤷‍♂️🤣🤣
17 hornet can be a tad messy 😱

I’m starting to thing we shouldn’t rename the site to ‘old farts directory’

It’s not looking good lads, hundreds of thousands of deer needing shot (or so they say), and most stalkers are in a zimmerframe
Not a zimmer, but held together with gaffa tape and ibuprofen!!
Rugby is a great game until your body reminds you of every single knock you have taken!

Longevity escape velocity! Look it up.
Theres a good chance if you make it to the mid 2030s you could be living a lot longer. People always say they dont want to be sat in a pool of **** in a nursing home at 100 and rightly so...but if you could still be dragging deer about at 100??? A very difficult prospect
60s no longer the 60 it used to be, were living longer and more importantly healthier lives than ever before and this will continue to improve.
Its supposedly 3 extra months for every year you currently live so keep moving eat well and stay positive.
