The good old days

The old carving knife at the top of this photo belonged to my grandmother. And perhaps even my great grandmother! I don't know. Either way, I've had this a very, very long time and it's finally come to the end of its days for its original purpose. There's no way it'll be discarded though, and I'll find another use for it, come what may.

My mother-in-law gave me her mother's carving knife yesterday, and it has a stainless steel blade that almost perfectly mirrors the original shape of the one I had but will probably last a lot longer. These old knives have a flexibility, and a 'feel' that modern ones just lack. If I live long enough to wear this one down to the same state as my grandmother's I'll have had my money's worth out of my allotted time on this rock 😆
