English RFD to Northern Ireland RFD transfer

I was back in Manchester at the weekend and found a couple of nice guns for woodcock (AyA 25 and no 2) which I would like to buy, to do this I need to transfer to a Northern Irish RFD, however the mainland RFD refuses point blank to do so, advising there is too much paperwork under the Windsor agreement.

Another RFD will have a couple of Churchill’s that might fit the bill next month, he was happy to do but advised he needs the NI RFD to arrange the pickup from him.

I previously understood it was quite simple to do such RFD transfers although I know rules changed slightly in 2025. Can any of the RFD on here shed a light on this?

I sent one last month, apart from checking with my FLD that the dealer's RFD was genuine (it's a different format than ours) it was exactly the same process as sending one inland.

Thank you that’s what I thought.

I must admit, I thought it was going to be a paperwork nightmare, that's the impression I've been given over the years. But it's not.

Simple as.

I wonder whether the extra NI parts to the various acts that we rarely read, has created this mysterious process that isn't needed. One person says it, another repeats it, and it becomes 'fact'.

WAS simple - but now the Winsor agreement is in force, it is the same procedure as exporting to any other non EU Country.

Im looking for a replacement M03 barreI in UK to use in the south, and was advised that consignment to NI may be liable to VAT etc. I haven't managed to confirm this yet.

Spoke to an RFD in NI about this, basically Parcelforce has been integrated into Royal Mail and what was once an easy process (same as any other Rfd transfer) has got very messy, particularly challenging in relation to valuation on secondhand sidelocks I.e. customs looking at new value rather than the second hand market.

Probably worth it for a very special gun but not for something that can be sourced in NI or RoI

Customs shouldn't get involved if it stays in NI. Valuation would only he a personal thing with regards to insurance. The last one 8 did was about 5 or 6 weeks ago, and no problem.

The RM/PF problems are the same for mainland transfers as well. But the problems are mostly about getting collections booked on the new system, and other issues getting WMD system transferred to the new system.

As above. I had a rifle sent over from an RFD in England to my RFD in NI last week. It was sent on Monday and delivered on Wednesday. The only difference now from in the past is that both rfd's have to have an EORI number, which is mandatory, for businesses to export/import between NI and GB. It is a simple process to register and get the number on the Gov website.
Some may not know about it or they don't want to be bothered with it, but any business wanting to trade either way must have it.

Exactly as above , a lot of rfds don’t want the bother of EORI numbers , they think it’s a big hassle and it’s not . I’ve brought a few guns over to NI no problem. Sportsman Gun Centre is your best bet for a no hassle transfer if you’re beat
