Vacancy: Squirrel Control Operative (possibly leading to Deer Management)

I fulfill a number of wildlife management contracts in the South East of England and have a need to add in one (or possibly more) Wildlife Managers onto one of the contracts that i have on a site near High Wycombe.

Primary focus will initially be on grey squirrel control, using an air rifle to shoot squirrels from a fixed point overlooking a bait station. If that goes well, the appointee could also have access to managing roe and muntjac, from high seats and via stalking. This is paid work, with roughly 10 sessions of squirrel control of about 3 hours each to do between now and the end of March. Successful candidate can expect to earn circa £600-700.

This work takes place in high public access areas and (as well as having the requirements outlined below) the successful appointee will need to be able to operate in a professional and discrete manner, avoiding conflict with members of the public.

Qualifications required are as follows:

Emergency First Aid at Work plus Forestry add on
Lantra Grey Squirrel Management Qualification, or the Shooting and Hunting Academy Grey Squirrel Course, or DSC 2
Manual handling certificate (can be done online)
Suitable insurance

If all goes well, candidates could undertake deer management on the same site. To do that, DSC 2 and an open firearms certificate would be needed.

If you're interested, please drop me a message via the forum, confirming that you have the necessary qualifications and outlining your experience in work of this type.

I fully expect that there will be a range of views on the requirements listed above, but to coin a phrase, it is what it is!

Hopefully it's of interest to someone.

Never had all those qualifications but used to do squirrel control in the eighties. Even In some places the public paid to visit, so discretion and safety was of paramount consideration. Trust also paid a large part of our operations.
Would not mind assisting if required also hold an open certificate, DSC1 and NGO game meat certificate.
BC.

Thanks to everyone who's messaged me about this - I think I've managed to reply to all.

This position is now filled. However, I may have a need for individuals who fulfill the same criteria to help with similar contracts in the future, so if you have the qualifications below, feel free to drop me a note and I'll bear you in mind.

(I'm afraid the qualifications are a non negotiable, required by the landowner and not stiplulated by me).

Emergency First Aid at Work plus Forestry add on
Lantra Grey Squirrel Management Qualification, or the Shooting and Hunting Academy Grey Squirrel Course, or DSC 2
Manual handling certificate
Suitable insurance

My wife has Manual Handling which she did online with a company called IHASCO TRAINING. Don't know the cost as was required and paid for by where she works. But it isn't at all an onerous course and is quite useful.

I did a live at work course on the same with a pratical test for one and then a team of people when I worked at East Midlands Airport in the sorting facility with DHL. That one you didn't get a certificate to keep as most workplaces don't want you having evidence of what is a transferable skill if you then leave.

Wish I'd paid attention to the "plan your route and check it is clear" bit as this Wednesday whilst taking a five gun cabinet out of my car I fell over the clay pigeon trap I'd also taken out and put to the side just two minutes before.

Jesus Christ must have been listening to the radio with his headphones on as he didn't hear me call to him...the wife upstairs and the neighbours some doors down out in the sunshine did however!
