Recommendations please.

Hoping to head on my first stalk next week. Need a recommendation for, backpack and gun strap . Any help appreciated.
Many thanks
Niggeloh all the way - have tried other types and styles but they don't stick to your shoulder as much so the rifle keeps sliding back off your shoulder.
Depending how much stuff you are taking with you a bumbag/fanny pack could be an option - keeps stuff out the way and much more compact than a rucksack.

I have Quake Claws. They really grip.

Good luck on your first stalk and don’t over think it. Please let the guide know that it is your first stalk and tell him what equipment you already have, you can ask if anything else is required but he should be able to furnish you with sticks etc. It is best to borrow rather than buy as you get a chance to sample different bits of kits and see how they are used to maximum effect.

zaim sling use as a normal one when a shot is iminent or over your back when walking any distence i use the little pouches of fruit drinks as they fit in a small pocket and dont make a plopping sound when walking anythink else goes into pockets

Yeah I moved my Quake Claw on quickly as well. It is hard to explain as you would think that lots of grip is good but really you want some movement without excess sliding. How the sling is set up, the clothing you wear and the balance of the rifle has much to do with it. The Quake bunches up your clothing and is not actually comfortable on your shoulder. Or at least not as comfy as neoprene with padding/give in it.

I still use a standard Niggleoh sling and an honourable mention for the Mauser swivel specific black neoprene sling I use on my M12 Max. That is hands down the best sling I have ever used. I just hate that Mauser make their studs smaller than standard Talons will fit. Otherwise I would have talons on that sling and use it for everything.

Quake Claw also comes with crap swivels. They look like they are made from recycled paperclips. My ancient Talons are a crazy amount of years old and have seen out plenty of slings and have never let me down.

Hi Luke,

I use a Top Notch 3 point sling with QD studs. I like holding the rifle close to the middle of my back when I want to cover ground quickly and detach when I am ready to stalk. The QD studs allow me to hook to the side of the chasis meaning the bolt faces away. I find this setup more comfortable especially over many hours.

I must admit that although i love how my Quake Claw sits on my shoulder the swivels are genuinely crap - I had one break on the second outing with this sling >

I would absolutely still recommend the sling, but put decent swivels on it from the off.
