Hoy coppers head to Australia.

Tell them to stay at home.
We're getting UK cops, and they're bringing their ****ed up attitudes to firearms with them.
Get on board with where you are going, or stay the **** away.

An ex colleague made the move to SA 14 months ago. Caught up with him at the Adelaide test match. Quality of life for him wife and his kids miles better. Less stress, less busy and less daily sh*t and some still degree of respect and appreciation for the police in that part of Oz.

His training was really good, and his specialist skill set has helped and he is on roughly the same level of pay there as he was here. Hes probably going federal soon though due to his background.

Plus the team has a shared approach to post shift activity. While the police station bars are a long departed thing here in the UK (a beer after earlies or lates in the nick was always appreciated), they often have a team tinny post shift at the nick.

He knows a few transferees who are out in the sticks with several hundred miles of patch to police on their jack.......and love it.

He was 25 years younger than me......but if I had my time again.........no brainer.

Far far less people also.

Plenty of shooting out there too..everyone will let a copper on their place to hunt.

Who in their right mind would want to be a copper in the Peoples Republic of Victoria? There is a bloody good reason they are short of coppers and are struggling to recruit.
Country Victoria would not be too bad, but Melbourne would be a **** posting.

OP 'Head to Victoria, its got all the best hunting..free too.'

Melbourne wasn't specifically mentioned.....there`s not much hunting there. Although I do know of quite a few places on the fringe/outskirts that are producing deer. A lot of Fallow besides the Sambar spread.
One assumes that any members on here that are coppers would be deer hunters. Victoria has the finest deer hunting of all and we are at this time allowed to own 15 firearms, have 18 million acres of free to use deer country...well $60 a year (circa).
If I was a pom cop that lived deer hunting and wanted to get away for a while I`d be heading to Vic rather than staying home.
" Gal Doves words from Sexy Beast below lol" Btw Winstone and Kingsley know their craft.
  • Gal: People say, "Don't you miss it, Gal?" I say, "What, England? Nah. ****ing place. It's a dump. Don't make me laugh. Grey, grimy, sooty. What a **** hole. What a toilet. Every **** with a long face shuffling about, moaning, all worried. No thanks, not for me." They say, "What's it like, then, Spain?" And I'll say, "It's hot. Hot. Oh, it's ****ing hot. Too hot? Not for me, I love it."
  • Now fellas its film script, dont shoot the messenger.

Back in the mid (ish) 2000’s Western Australia had a massive recruiting drive for British police officers, many took up the offer, many came back disenchanted.
Generally they felt like they were treated like second class citizens, many said not much better than the Aborigines, were posted to the least desirable postings, usually in the less desirable areas of Perth, and then not told where until after they had completed training, in the meantime having to, often, relocate families.
Many said that overall quality of life was no better and in many cases worse than what they had left.
Often recruited for their ‘specialist’ skills/knowledge which was promptly ignored on arrival.
Everybody I knew who went, came back with very negative views about their experiences. I’m sure many others stayed.
There is a reason why they cannot recruit locally!

In relation to the WA recruiting at that time I’ve no idea, though usually because pay and conditions, relative to society at the time, are carp. Just look at Canada and the discovery of black gold.
