Wanted: 1" scope lapping bar to buy or borrow / rent

I'm after 1" scope lapping bar to smooth out a set of 1" Burris Zee rings.
I'd rather not buy new for a tool that I'll use the once, so looking for a used one to either buy or borrow for the job. I'm happy to pay for rental.

I found a one inch ground to exact diameter bar from a local toolmaker as scrap, it was a standard size back in 1999.
Have tried 3 local engineering firms and they either cannot help or want more than the cost of a retail lapping kit.
I'm hoping to find one here. Fingers crossed!

This might work.
One inch aluminium tube. Cheap as chips?
It is an aluminium billet that is first heated to a malleable state and then forced through a die to form a seamless tube, a process often done via impact extrusion. It should be pretty straight.

look for 1" piece of Silver steel. That will be very close to size and pretty straight as it's centre-less ground.

Thanks all.
I like the idea of finding a cheap way of lapping the rings by using an offcut bar, but locally it's a no go. I could buy some online, but then I'd still need to attach a handle of some kind to use it as looking at lapping videos online, it looks a fair amount of effort to get the bar moving. Again I'd need a local person to weld or drill and tap one on.
I got the impression that a local machine shop wouldn't bother for anything less than £70, which is about the same as buying a proper lapping kit which comes with no doubt about suitability or extra faffing.

Not worth the hassle just buy a set of Burris Zee Signature rings fit and forget.

I already have a set of those in Medium on the rifle, but they are a tad high when combined with my rail. I like them not just for the adjustability but also because they don’t damage scope tubes.
I have a set of regular Burris Zee steel mounts which should be about perfect height, and once lapped shouldn’t damage my scope tubes.
Takbok has kindly offered to help, so I should be sorted out soon.

Thanks all.

I typed in 25mm EN8 300mm long with a price tag of £14.50 free post, go in your man cave drill a m12 hole put a m12 bolt 100mm long and 2 nuts
run the first nut down then tighten up the second. So you only have to drill 1 hole. Guessing you have a pistol drill one 6mm for a pilot then the m12.

A length of 25mm EN8 will be up to the job, if you drill 2 holes you can reverse the bar to half any error.

So do a search for 1" and you will be away. :tiphat:

1" (25.4) dia EN1 bright mild steel round various lengths
