From a fisherman colleague:
It's gotten out of hand the numbers of them out there. 5 years ago it was just rumours of people hooking the odd one whilst out shark fishing. Then they started tagging them to get an idea of numbers and now. It's been opened up to to allow anyone to fish for them. But all catch and release unfortunately. No big bonus pay day bringing one of them in to sell to the local fish monger.
I got a friend who has a house in mevagissy harbour and he regularly watches them no more than 50-100 yards off the shore feeding. Unbelievable. It's about £250 for 8hrs fishing and surprisingly there is no guarantee of hooking them but they are good sport on the right gear.
