Potholes.

I need too take a photo of this when Its not filled with water whilst I'm standing in it probably one of the biggest ones I've ever seen, good two meters wide and probably not far off half a meter deep, all things considered soon as I reported it the council were pretty on the ball on checking it out and considering it high risk. 🤔

Already claimed a suspension spring! pretty confident if a domestic car road through it, it would be hitting the axel.

One of my mates lost both his nearside front and rear tyres on a pothole in one go - got towed home

Seems to be a nationwide problem at the moment..........

D&G has always been pretty known for awful roads admittedly being almost entirely a farming district It sort of makes sense, most of the inner town & highways are
okay but anywhere else is awful.

As I typed that out my mom came rushing in informing me my grandpas motorbike seized up and he's being airlifted down too probably Manchester I doubt the bike failed, probably some sort of pothole..... weird timing.

he's "okay" but leg Is completely shattered from the information I got oof.

The state of the infrastructure in this country ...

Not really a problem for me, as I rarely leave the comfort of the village, and I know where every single pothole is now... I found the last one a month ago when riding my pushbike, got catapulted right over the handlebars and landed in the middle of the road... my young Cocker thought it was a great game  (I've sort of recovered, right elbow was tender as Hell, the bike still has a wonky rear wheel)

Nah just the white van, not sure why we ventured down too the forest that one night but he blew right through it quite a fair thud.

Landrover Is in for a bunch of repairs at the moment, Oil leak, Fuel leak, Issues starting, and then we lost the ability too break last time we were out so we got it in held on too the final month of its MOT I guess! 🤣

Hope he is ok. 😕
Hopefully air ambulanced somewhere down south parents dashed in told me then dashed out too go see my Grandma, The unfortunate thing is (assuming he's okay, obviously) I'm pretty sure the guy just got hip replacements, or knee replacements in the last two years..... that's unfortunate guy only just got his freedom back. 🙁

I lived in Zambia for a while. There were potholes everywhere that make the British ones look like tiny pock marks. You soon learnt to drive at a speed where could easily avoid them. If you hit them they would take the suspension off a landcruiser, If you were really lucky you blew a tire out. Either way uou were out of control and either went over the edge or headlong into a truck or donkey cart.

Puddles hide potholes.

Thats a big ouch. Hope he recovers well.

Just managed to find a replacement wheel for the old fella who destroyed this in a pot hole last week.
The state of the roads is a joke. IMG_6763.webpIMG_6762.webp

Haha. Old memories of navigating said roads. Entire sections of layby are used its so bad. This is only the tarred ones, the dirt ones are even more fun

There was something on the news in the last few days about local people repairing their potholes. The roads around my village in Devon contain numerous pot holes, AKA death traps.

Of course. It has a nationwide cause - some ar5eholes keep stealing the money to pay off their mates and line their own pockets.

100% agree 😂

By us the council will patch a hole that meets their “quota”, but ignore the 30m stretch that is covered in holes which “aren’t quite big enough” :banghead:

Seen and navigated FCS tracks that might be considered F1 compliant compared to what to me looks like poorly maintained farm access.

The potholes aren't really the problem, the almost total lack of proper scheduled maintenance is the problem. Apart from motorways, very, very few roads are properly built, properly maintained or resurfaced. And even when they are, quality control is very poor.

The Civil service and councils (this is not just a political failing but a total failure of the bureaucracy) are too irresponsible to be allowed to control the roads. 90% of public money spent on transport is spent on subsidising rich people's and bureaucrats' travel, and under 10% on maintaining the roads on which 90%+ of travel, connectivity and goods travel. It is incomprehensibly and indefensibly stupid.

Funny you should mention that, my mother-in-law told me every village had a couple of roadmen, they were responsible for a few miles of roads each, and it was very competitive as to who kept the best roads. No such thing as a pothole, she used a pony & trap to travel between villages.
