SAKO Finnfire P94S Ejection Problems

Hi All,

Hope you're all good,

I've got myself a lovely Finnfire P94S, and have come across the ejector clip issue - mines actually fallen out after removing the bolt a few times, and whilst I still have it, I cannot quite work out the best way to reinsert without disassembling the rifle, or is that a necessity to refit?

For ref, this is the 'clip' I refer to, also called a spring on other threads.

Have a word with @safer … if you ask nicely, he’s adept at bending new ones up out of piano wire which will be more durable than the originals.

Fitting-wise, you need to take the action out of the stock and remove the magazine well after removing the magazine release catch to get to the Allen screw holding the well in place. Care required here as there’s a spring under the release catch and it’s a bit of an arse to get the pins back in holding that spring under tension. The ejector spring itself is held in place with a small cross head screw.. just be sure it’s properly seated under that screw.

… and reverse the process.

Here is the way it sits in the mag well. The red arrow is ejector and the green shows where the screw is.
Your old one is definitely deformed and your replacements look like they are too but can't see them form the label.

The slight bend on the long bit must protrude ever so slightly over the inner edge of the mag well since that is the bit that pushes the brass out. If it protrudes too much your bolt will be very stiff or will not operate at all. If it is too small (like the one in your photo the it will not eject.

This is really handy thank you for the pics etc, my p94s isn’t great ejecting, handy to see what it looks like. Was going to take it in to the gunsmith but he said he has quite a backlog of work so it could take a while. To be honest I can’t even remember a piece of wire being present at all on mine

well, that certainly clears that one up.. Mines missing completely! ill get it booked in, cycling the bolt is quite rough too so hopefully they can give it a once over while they are at it.

I can send you the replacement ejector if you think you can change it yourself following the instructions above.

That would be really kind of you, thanks! The only bit that concerns me is the spring under the release catch, is there a knack to that or is it fairly self explanatory once it’s apart?

It is relatively simple but two pins holding the catch are slippery f***ers

Note to all attempting this replacement. It is not hard but requires some skill and knowledge. I am Mechanical Engineer and have been shooting for while so I feel confident doing this.
You are doing this at your own risk.
This may not be the case for all P94S rifles but mine is very sensitive on how tight you put the stock back on. It affects the accuracy. Not by much but I use mine for competitions and one point could make all the difference. I may be giving all my secrets away here

but I tighten mine to 36 lbs/in (49 N/m). I think that is what Sako recommends.

For me, I found the easiest way was to start off putting the bottom pin in, then the top pin, the one from which the clip pivots, I used a long screwdriver bit to put it into place whilst lining up the pin.

It was fiddly, and took me a few attempts.

Thanks, I’m going to have a look once the spring arrives. Hopefully I can sort without too much fiddling!
