‘Varmint’ profile rifles?

I was pondering on varmint for a space l have to fill, having used a Sporter for many years (without complaints l might add). Can’t
really justify the extra weight the Sporter is as accurate as a Varmint.
So apart from the fact the varmint will get more shots off before heat affects accuracy. How many shots dose one need.!
PS.
In layman's terms, a sporter will heat up quicker and cool down quicker, but won't cooldown as quick as it heats up compared to a heavy barrel. A heavy barrel will take longer to heat up and longer to cool down, but will cool down quicker than it heats up compared to a sporter.
Now thinking I’ll stick with the sporter.

Atb. Buck.

Cheers guys! Think you’ve all covered this very nicely. I’ll stick to the standard profile as planned. No point in lugging extra weight up a hill as you say.

.22-250 is a bit overkill for crows, more of a foxer.

To be honest it’s more the noise around the farm that bothers me than the evaporated crow

Varmint profile are great for if you want to shoot long shot strings - sitting on a bench clearing a field of prairie dogs is what they were designed for. Excellent for plinking gongs. But there is varmint and varmint. My remington 223 sps varmint is not bad at all to carry. With a sling its awful so I just carry it African style and then its fine.

But for a true vermin rifle, well the old rook ad rabbit rifles were nearly correct. Chamber one in .222 and pretty much perfect.

I don't see why the "venerable" .223Rem isn't being considered "good enough" here?? Hardly a mention??. It is effectively the triple deuce with a few extra f.p.s. if one wants to load for that - like I do.

I.m.h.o. the .223 has a bit more adaptability than the .222 and doesn't give that much away to the .22-250 round either...

My take anyway...

ATB ..... and shoot safely.

To be honest, I had one and it worked but a change of rifle rather than a desire for a different caliber swapped me to the .22-250. I just found the .223 boring and choice of second hand options in say a sako 75 are limited,(appreciate that does say something in itself).

OK "wildfowler.250"... Personal taste is a completely different matter all together and often bears little to no relevance to any kind of practicality. It is just something you WANT, and I Can understand that mate!...
