OhI think you'll find that they won't sell shooting related publications to a youngster.

At least you aren't killing anything with clays and I wouldn't recommend eating clay pigeons! Maybe the way forward?Unfortunately, I donāt shoot at all and infact donāt eat meat either. Iāve told him this is unlikely to become a family sport, but he is still interested! It is his passion, and as his parent I will facilitate as much as possible.
Good point about the clay shootingā¦maybe he will tryā¦but I can already hear him say āI want the real thingā![]()
Would work very well for me, but unlikely to work for an avid game enthusiast like him. I truly think he would make a great shooter one day. He loves the entire process of stalking, shooting, preparing and eating - donāt think the clay pigeons will fulfil that need.At least you aren't killing anything with clays and I wouldn't recommend eating clay pigeons! You are right, although there are aficionados of clay shooting and competitions, most game shooters don't find it half as interesting and fulfilling as live game. Many game shooters do it as a practice exercise.Would work very well for me, but unlikely to work for an avid game enthusiast like him. I truly think he would make a great shooter one day. I can imagine game shooters enjoy the thrill of the entire experience, much more multi faceted than clay pigeon shooting. You are right, although there are aficionados of clay shooting and competitions, most game shooters don't find it half as interesting and fulfilling as live game. Thank you for the compliment on my beliefs. I firmly believe my job as a parent is to nurture and grow the human that my child naturally is rather than create a clone of myself. I have to cook meat for him regularly as his body needs it, I simply donāt eat it myself, have never been tempted to do so either. Even if he hunts, I would be willing to cook it for him, if he asks me to. Usually he doesnāt give me the meat cleaning job, just the cooking (which is really sweet of him).At least you aren't killing anything with clays and I wouldn't recommend eating clay pigeons! I'm pleasantly pleased to see a vegetarian (or vegan or pescatarian or..) not only sticking to his beliefs but also not ramming their beliefs down others' throats but enabling others to make their own minds up. Good for you sir! If your son does go on to bring pheasants home, I guess preparing them will be his job? Can be a bit messy until you get the hang of it.![]()

Haha. Who knows right??Indeed. The seemingly contradicting ideas of testing yourself with challenging shots and at the same time ensuring clean humane kills, for one. A good team of pickers up will be on all good shoots. Be careful now, hang around these pages too long, you might be tempted to the dark side!
I look forward to your reply. Thank you for your note, I appreciate it very muchI am writing this here just to remind me to come back to it as it is late. But I have been a London teenager who feels they are a hunter, and it's not straightforward, it's a long journey, but now there is the Internet and it helps.
Back tomorrow.

And Iām his mum, not dad

This is probably why he wants to use an air rifle. He also wants to taxidermy some of them, so needs them as intact as possible for that reason too.Nothing to stop him hunting pheasants with an air rifle if thatās what he wants to do, although he probably wonāt find a syndicate for that.
Obviously heāll need to get written permission from a landowner to hunt.
If he is going to eat then, shooting them in the head with an air gun is a better way than shooting them with a shotgun as they wonāt be full of lead shot.
Iām not sure if there is a UK air gun forum he should join perhaps. This is probably why he wants to use an air rifle. He also wants to taxidermy some of them, so needs them as intact as possible for that reason too.
If he doesnāt need a syndicate, any suggestions on where he can find a landowner (forum perhaps) and the best place to practice air rifle shooting?
Will check with him when he wakesā¦maybe a good startā¦I will message back. Thank you for your kind offerwhat about tunnel trapping squirrels as an entry, just about every garden has squirrels near by. a bird feeder draws them quickly.
happy to give advice if he want to try
Thank you, this is a sensible gradual approach. We probably need to go for a walk in chiltern woods and try to speak to some land ownersā¦Iām not sure if there is a UK air gun forum he should join perhaps.
If you donāt know any farmers in your area I would recommend knocking on their doors and asking them.
Initially I would ask for permission to shoot paper targets only, perhaps whilst supervised by a parent, in just one field, and then ask permission for live game after heās got the hang of it all and the landowner trusts him.
He is interested in trying with squirrels. May I DM you for advice?what about tunnel trapping squirrels as an entry, just about every garden has squirrels near by. a bird feeder draws them quickly.

All the best and good to see a young lad looking to get started in the hobby .Hi, My 14 yr old son wanted to start pheasant hunting. I have created this profile to help him connect with a syndicate near north west London preferably near a train station.
He knows nothing about this and needs an introduction to this activity when he starts. He wanted to use air guns, so any recommendations on which air guns would be suitable would be appreciated.
