.17 hmr rounds again

i waited a few years to buy mine, mainy as i couldnt afford it at, i have just purchased one mainy for taking rabbits and birds at a longer range.
I hadnt heard much bad press about the .17hmr, now im woundering if i should of gone for a different cal, basicaly im looking for a cheap (ish) round which is capible of 100+ yards for rabbits mainly. Ive used a .22lr for years but as we now its only good upto about 70-80 yards max.
well i will just have to see how i get with the .17hmr for now

Hi Simon

It's obviously a cracking calibre as so many have been sold, but the consensus seems to be that it's ammo manufacturing process that's broken...

I went .22LR, but that's not going to get to the ranges that you want, and anything bigger will give you other issues ie land signed off for .222/.223

If you have invested, then stick with it as I'm sure that the ammo will get sorted

Anyone who has duff Hornady rounds should contact Edgar Bros and ask for the Armoury. I had 500 Blue tips exchanged for a new batch of Red tips which solved the problem. I believe the problem effects both tip colours and is down to certain batches.

well yep im sticking with it for now, i dont have a issuse with land being cleared as i have an open cert, but i didnt want to go for a larger centerfire round.
So if its defect ammo, can you not claim and damage or losses back from them

​I had some rounds with split cases so-called the importers and they told me to return them back to where I got them from and was given 100 rounds for my troubles,

It's not changed my mind about the .17 because to us it's our biggest moneyspinner, minimal ricochet and skipping which allows us to shoot in sensitive areas.
