Hello, I’m thinking of getting the above rifle I have a .223 but being fancying a .17hornet for quite a while anybody got one in c/z wondering what they’re like.

Price of ammo also at around a £1 a bang to buy, so most likely be prepared to reload for it, a tube of powder goes a very long way. Very accurate no louder than a 17hmr with a decent sound mod, regret unable to comment on the CZ as have the savage M25..

I've had CZ 17Hornet and as stated above it was a very accurate, fun rifle. It depends a bit on what you want it for. It can be pretty devastating on small vermin such as crows (good) and rabbits (not so good). Not really a foxing calibre although at sensible ranges and with good shot placement will do the job fairly well.

All in all the CZ was very enjoyable to use. By the way, reloading again as stated is pretty straightforward if a tad fiddly. If you ever are looking for a set of dies I still have my Hornady 2 die set that I used to good effect.

I have the CZ thumbhole with varmint barrel. Extremely accurate with both factory and home loads. Great for long range rabbit/crows etc (weather permitting) and I've taken foxes out to 200 yards no problem. Shot placement, as with all calibres, is important.

Don't expect it to drop foxes like your .223. For rabbits and birds it's brilliant. If home loading, primer pockets can get loose fast if you load them hot, and powder charges need to be accurately measured. The bullets are fiddly.

It's a great little round for vermin bashing and the odd fox as long as you place your shots carefully.

Hi. I have a cz 17hornet. I cut the barrel down to 20”. It makes a great little truck gun. I’ve shot hares out to 370yrd and crows to 260yrds. The only problem is the price of the ammo. At £1 a round you might as well just get a .204 unless you’re going to reload. Or run 40gn through your 223. Hope this helps.

17hornet for quite a while anybody got one
I love the .17 calibre, but I went for the 'full fat' option, the 17 Remington.
Factory ammunition is expensive for both so I reload.
I've shared this photo of 6mm plate a couple of times.
It sums up the 17 for me - flat.

I had a CZ 17 Hornet.
Once I got it all set up correctly it was very nice to shoot, very light to carry around all day and an impressive vermin gun.
I agree with post #6 that reloading it was not the easiest thing to do, and was pretty frustrating most of the time.

Your 22 Hornet will serve you very well.

I use an HW66 18 inch for Foxing near houses on a small holding and it does the job absolutely fine and very discreetly.

I do not shoot 17 I shoot 22 hornet ! It's a brilliant cartridge probably tge oldest in common use starting off as tge black powder 22 cf ,
2700 approx with a 40-45 grain bullet 700 ish ft lb. Kills fox , crows no problem and before tgecdeercactbitvwas the roe rifle of choice . Half the powder of a 223 its easier to quieten down .
Fox under 200 yards so long as we ain't dealing with wind much is dead and its superb for cubbing the earth's. Lamping in the real world and I shoot most of my rabbit with it

I always found the CZ527 in 17 hornet a bit fiddly when feeding and ejecting, especially when trying to do quickly under pressure, probably more to do with the case design than a problem with the rifles. As such I've gone back to 17HMR for rabbits/crows up to 100M and .223 for fox and long range rabbit beyond 100M.

I have a Cz 17 hornet and a 223. love both. once on top of the reloading hornet is spot on, cheap to feed. Had an issue with one of my mags but the other works really nicely. use 17g bullets for rabbits AND 20g for anything else
