1998 Jeep Cherokee 2.5TD
Everything works as should other than driver side electric window which stopped working recently.
4wd works perfectly and is regularly used when stalking/retrieving carcasses on Dartmoor.

Things to note are as follows.

Head gasket went in 2017 so rather than repair I was advised to replace with lower mileage engine which I did.

Replacement engine was at 74k which was lower than the original engine. My mechanic advised would be worth replacing the clutch at same time as doing the engine, another which I did. This work in total cost;
Labour £500
Clutch £230
Engine £480

Since then the Jeep has been my daily driver on Dartmoor and has been great. It is an excellent stalking vehicle. Back seat can be removed so plenty of room for carcass transportation.

If you search through MOT history you’ll be able to see what work was done annually to pass the MOT’s.

Some welding was done on the exhaust recently to pass when it failed MOT on emissions.

Bit of an oil leak like most old trucks.

I replaced the leaf springs a couple of years ago with heavy duty Old Man Emu springs and replaced the rear tyres with General Grabber AT’s.

New rear shock absorbers fitted last month.

It has a push button start which occasionally needs to be pushed more than once to start, think this is a wiring issue but not sure.

Headliner is sagging a bit in places as common with lots of these at this age but not too bad.

Small tear on drivers seat, near centre and on sides. All other seats in good condition.

Spare tyre retainer needs replacing, spare is currently stored in boot.

Current mileage shows 141k but because the engine was replaced in 2017 the actual mileage is going to be between 86/88k as the vast majority of my driving is within just a few miles of where I live, manage deer and work, with occasional annual trips from Devon to Wiltshire to visit family, two or three times a year.

There are of course a few dents and scratches and the condition of the paintwork in general is showing it’s age. There are some stains inside - one on offside passenger footwell and one in boot.

It is what it is - reliable and good working order but not by any means a new car.

Selling because I’m now making regular, longer motorway journeys so I have bought a more appropriate car for this.

Test drive welcome.

Any questions please let me know and thanks for looking.

I’ll get a few more photos up soon.

No you can't list this for sale ..... I'm supposed to be looking at a newer truck later this week, now you've got me thinking.......
If I’d known you were looking for something I’d have let you know sooner! You’re welcome to pop round and have a proper look over it and take for a drive if you like. Give me a call when you’ve had a look at the newer one if you decide not to go for it.

I was in the USA when they announced that they were stopping production of them they had an inline 6 and a 4 cylinder. the inline 6 capacity of 4 litres engine I had in my AMC Eagle station wagon a bombproof engine IMO. Then the US population wobbled and started ordering them like crazy which gave the model a new lease of life. I think they are cool and good to use as they are not too large unlike all the SUVs of today.

We had an R-reg one of these, that took us from Oxfordshire to Sutherland for 10 years or so. Absolutely fantastic vehicle!

As you say, the rear bench seat can be removed, leaving pretty much a flat floor that just eats up any luggage, labradors, shooting kit, dead deer, etc. Neither the Land Cruiser nor the two Shoguns we've had since have anything like the usable luggage capacity.

I believe the 2.5 TD used the VM Motori diesel engine, for which, if ever needed, there is a specialist in Chesterfield: VM Diesel Specialist Ltd – VM Motori - VM Diesel Specialist Ltd

Thanks for all the comments - these are great vehicles for stalking as some of you know! Cheers.

A few more photos.

Bump - one of these sold on here last year for more than double the price mine is up for. Am open to sensible offers…

I can't believe it hasn't been sold especially at that price . If I hadn't spent the last nine months convincing the wife we needed a pick up I would have snapped it up.
