I picked this up about a month ago, optimistically thinking that I'd be able to get it sorted and MOT'd fairly quickly, however I've been flat out at work and the weather has been against me the rest of the time (I don't have anywhere indoors I can work on it).

It was in daily use before I bought it and the MOT ran out the day I bought it but the guy I bought it from said that his local garage had said that other than some welding, it should MOT no bother and nothing has jumped out at me to think it wouldn't.

The welding isn't on the chassis surprisingly, but the inner wings want some work both sides and the footwell's need patching too. It's not going to be a 5 minute job but I might have bitten off a bit much at the mo, which would be a shame as it could be a nice truck and it's too nice to break (in my opinion).

It has 147000 miles on it, is old enough to have the diff lock fitted (but no lever/linkage), it had rear springs from new, has had the ACE removed is on a set of BFG a/t's (approx half worn - with an unused matching spare) and I know tthe last two owners so am fairly confident it's not a bad one. It is a bit mucky inside as the last guy used to chuck the dogs in on shoot days, but should clean up quite well. One job I have done since I got it was to fit a new spring plate to the top of the gearbox so now changing gear is a lot less guesswork.

It's old enough to be the slightly cheaper tax (as its pre 2001) and it's got about half a tank of diesel in it too!

2 sets of keys, starts and drives but currently has both front wings off ready for welding.

I don't really want to part with it but I'm currently running round in a borrowed car that could do to go back, I'm no further on than I was a month ago with getting the disco ready and Mrs S is due to pop out baby S any day now.

If I can get back out what it stands me at then it can go, otherwise I'll just have to figure out a way to make it work. Located between York and Scarborough.

Will sort out pics shortly.

UPDATED 22/07

Since the arrivil of Baby S, The disco has largely been forgotten about but it's still here and needs a new home. I've done very little at it since but whilst having a scrape about have found that it does need a bit of welding on the underside of one the of the rear chassis legs (the other side looks to have been done before).

All fixable for someone with more time than me or with a little work would make a good truck for use exclusively off road as the footwells could soon be patched up by bonding a piece in place with pu sealer (but it wouldnt mot with it like that).

It currently stands me in at £1100 - however I really could do with the space on the drive now so would welcome sensible offers before I put it into the auction at Copart.

Alternatively, I am on the lookout for a cheap 223 (ideally with scope) so might be interested in some sort of swap.

Couple of pics to start off, will try some more this aft if it ever stops raining.

Drivers footwell area definitely the worst but i'm pretty sure its doable without taking servo off.

Thanks. That was my thinking when I bought it but time ran away from me and I can't find anyone local that's got time to weld it up for me.

My Discovery sized garden ornament is still sat here and as fond of it as I've grown, Mrs S is pushing for it to go.

For someone with more time, indoor space and inclination, it'd all be fixable but otherwise as a complete donor vehicle it has what seems to be a good running engine (with no warning lights on), working gearbox and transfer box (which is old enough it looks to have the diff lock still fitted but not connected), 4 half worn BFG a/ts with a 5th unused one and currently still has half a tank of diesel in it.

I've not got the time or space to break it here so it needs to go as a complete unit - it will start with a jump and will drive onto a trailer for loading.

i have recently <monday> sold a discovery2 td5 on a 51 plate no mot for £800 ,the chap put two new head lamps in it <mine were full of water as its been stood for 2 years> took it for its mot on tuesday ,straight pass ,so he is chuffed to bits. so buyers are out there just be patient:british:

I recently remembered why I stopped using Gumtree etc - it's still here and if I have to take a massive hit on it I'dr ather it be to someone like-minded on here than the morons I've had the displeasure of dealing with elsewhere....

I've had most of the diesel out of it now too so that's brought it's value down a bit too.

I do now also have the bits to connect the difflock (removed from a 300tdi) which can be negotiated into the price too.

Edit: forgot to say am still on the hunt for a 223 and also maybe a stock for a long action Howa on the offchance theres a part ex be done.

It's the hilo/difflock lever, mount and linkages lifted off of a 300tdi gearbox - there's a fitting guide online somewhere and it suggests its a bolt on swap other than bending one link rod a little.

I'll try and get into garage later today for pics

IMG_20230515_194854_hdr.webp There's a good write up on fittinv on the website called discovery2.

this came off of a discovery 1 fitted wi th a manual R380 (with reverse beneath 5th) so should be all good for a manual D2 conversion and I did remember to take the pivot off of the tdi gearbox too.
