I prepared a clear area near a fox tower with my tractor and topper this morning, cutting a very wide ride through the deep rushes.
I went back tonight and put my fox pro caller out about 80 yards from my waiting spot.
I was in position about 10pm in the fox tower about 12 feet up .
I kept using the caller remotely, letting it play for maybe a minute, then a break for some time, eventually at 11.15 a fox came out of an adjoining field, I was having trouble in seeing through my pard as the tiny screws fixing it on must have come slightly slack, fox seemed to move on ,then within minutes another one came, same field and went towards the caller which I had left on and calling. It was either the same one or a fresh fox.
I managed to see it despite the pard problem. though not as easy as normally, it was only about 50 yards away and was shot dead by the tikka .243, v max 75 grain.
Another problem was the thermal spotter battery was flashing on empty, so it was time to go and pack up, I went to collect the fox and saw it was a vixen, very slim, my 12th adult this year.
Questions : do most fox pro caller users leave it on calling for a few minutes, has anyone had similar problems with pard screws coming slack, they really need tiny nuts on the screws, this has happened to mine a few times now, and I tighten them up with the tiny alum key. Not a job to do in the field, only at home with a good light .
This was my first fox called in apart from a cub a few weeks ago. I bought it online back in March and expect many more foxes using it.
